TROPHY CASE

This post on the front page today made me think of Japanese Weddings. This guy and the commenters would flip their shit if they were invited to a wedding here. by zorospridein japan

fair enough, but consider the amount of the population that lives in cities and the amount of people that don't own cars. you're right tokyo does not equal japan.

its not that people are told on the invitation. its such a long standing tradition that everybody knows. it has to be an odd amount of money (so its not evenly split). The marrying couple pays for the entire wedding, which is ridiculously expensive. I've heard of a man's wedding kimono rental of over 2000 dollars. Women's can be up to 15000, for a half day rental, I've heard. Everybody knows the rules and expectations. friends usually are expected to pay 30k, family and managers pay 50k. co-workers are like 15k.

for gifts, most people travel by train, so to transport all the gifts by train would be rather difficult. money is just easier, but there is tradition behind it as well.

Any help? by ShepLiarain swtor

[–]zxcvbrian 2 points3 points ago

that's the trick. If you don't connect with a story's protagonist, then you lose interest in the story. Movie, book or game. My buddy must have rerolled 10 times in skyrim before he found the character he liked and could be

i usually have the same issues. i love alts. what keeps me more focused is the legacy benefits. think of how it will be better to have the class perk of an inquisitor on your new operative. or wouldnt it be cool to have a chiss sith, or a sith bounty hunter. there are some cool unlocks.

another thing, i often scrap characters i dont really connect to. i just didnt like my smuggler, nothing wrong with the class, but the character i made just wasnt a match for me.

spend more time choosing and think what you would do if you and your best friend had to fight 5 guys in the real world.
would you rush in, stay back and throw rocks? support your friend, sneak up and attack first?

then pick the class that does that

How long is the main storyline in SWTOR? And how many different stories are there? by watimeisitin swtor

[–]zxcvbrian 0 points1 point ago

I have a level 32 Sith Inquisitor. I started out with the weekend trial and got hooked. From what I've read, the game does seem to "end" at some point. There seems to be a lack of interest after you completely finish the story. For me, I love alts and the characters and stories are interesting enough to play through. So I would say its worth it, you may not need more than a 3 month subscription though. I'm planning to get my main to 50 and then work on some alts that I thought had an interesting storyline. If you think about the hours of gameplay, its a pretty good value. 200 hours of reading novels or watching movies would cost you how much? and thats only 1/8th of the game's stories. I'd say go for it. If you're looking for a partner, let me know (I'm on Dalborra)

Okay. Three weeks later - I just got my first 50. What now? by thepoprockin swtor

[–]zxcvbrian 0 points1 point ago

i see your point. thats a much more comprehensive answer. thanks. i feel the same way, i just haven't felt it yet because there are so many alts with varying stories, but outside the class quests i do just spacebar through it. but i definitely felt the same with skyrim.

you make some valid points. i just wonder if the subscription model was appropriate for this game. bascially, you beat the game, and there is not much to do after you beat the game. same as any other game right? the problem is that we feel there should be more to do because we pay 15 bucks a month. its kind of a relief though too, these games can be unhealthily addictive, but knowing that it ends is kind of a relief that i won't be playing it through the whole summer wasting the good weather.

why does it have to be only about gear? some people play the game because they like the world or to explore. gear is fun, but its not really the soul of the game. maybe the game was designed to satisfy other aspects of gaming than just the next set of gear? or maybe it should be

Ask History: Are there still Samurai today? by Shwoodgein history

[–]zxcvbrian 0 points1 point ago

living in japan, many of the people i meet, after getting to know them they proudly admit that they're ancestors were samurai class, OR never say anything at all about their family history, just "my father is from Oita" or something like that. There is still a pride with being descendants of the samurai class.
