Yes, yes I did. I'd have thought they would have gotten their shit together by now. Wishful thinking I suppose.

Beta testing for most boxed games is done usually under an NDA and is there to test all of the content for this exact reason. Most gamers will play a boxed game of this type for a maybe a month and then move on, and that's why is especially important for the game to be solid right out of the gates.

Blizzard had an internal alpha for this purpose, but it's becoming obvious that it wasn't enough. The balance isn't horrible, but I expect more from them.

[–]zublits 6 points7 points ago

Yep. A game like this is nearly impossible to balance properly until there's loads of people playing it. The only real thing they could have done was increased the number of players in the closed beta, enforce an NDA, and give them access to all the content. I see why they didn't do it, but it's really the only way to balance a game like this.

Once I hit 60 on my main I might just stop playing for a while and wait for patches. The game is going to be fixed, but it's going to take some time just like D2 did.

Blizzard has established the most successful business in all of video games. It’s not like we need to go there and fix something. Blizzard will continue to operate as they have done in the past – fairly independently. They have a top notch management and development team and we have a very high degree of confidence that they know how to run the business and a track record to prove it. In addition, they have an extraordinarily strong product pipeline, with Starcraft, Wrath of the Litch King and Diablo 3. It’s tremendous, and it would be a big mistake for us to distract them with new ideas. But there are some opportunities we will be exploring, especially relating to their expertise in Asia. If you consider that Guitar Hero is not in Asia yet and that the only way to create a business there is figuring out ways to work in internet cafes, etc., we hope to benefit from their expertise.

Not sure if I agree with these definitions. Homeless people are people who have no home. They can be educated and intelligent, mentally ill, or somewhere in between.

White trash usually refers to uneducated ignorant people. It says nothing about whether their income is illegal or not. Most "white trash" people work low paying jobs in fast food or whatever. Some are even tradesman who make decent money. It's more about the ignorance and cultural values than income or where that income comes from.

Wrong. Blizzard is still a whole entity with Mike Morhaime at the top. All of the management within the Irvine location are Blizzard employees, and have no direct link to Activision. Morhaime does answer to Activision-Blizzard corporate, but that's the first link.

Looks like we're getting some help from the Diablo folks by viperabyssin masseffect

Diablo 3 does not have a single player mode. It has multiplayer with a private game option. Whether you agree with the design choice or not, that's what Blizzard went with.

The "entitled gamer" thing comes form people thinking that they can tell a developer how to create their own game. It's not the same as gamers expecting companies to make good on promises (ala with the ME3 endings).

Supporting offline single player isn't just a matter of turning off some sort of DRM, it's a matter of redesigning the game fundamentally from the ground up to be played client-side. It's an extra feature, and it's one that Blizzard didn't think it was worth implementing (I tend to agree, but that's besides the point.)

The best D3 experience, according to Blizzard, and I think according to the vast majority of fans, is when you have access to the Battlenet community. It's how anyone serious about D2 played that game, and it's how Blizzard designed D3 to be played. Again, you can disagree, but I think people who really would utilize the offline single player are a vocal minority, and Blizzard obviously didn't see fit to include this legacy feature. I don't blame them.

The launch was rocky, but the service has only gotten better since, and a few months from now no one will remember that the servers were unstable on launch day. People got a multiplayer game with a rocky launch, which is regrettable, but not entirely surprising.

I fully understand people complaining about the servers, but what I don't understand is people complaining about a game which has been marketed as multiplayer only not having an option to play offline. Again, it's like buying World of Warcraft and complaining that you can't play on your own private server.

Diablo 3 was marketed as an online only game from day one. They never agreed to an offline single player mode, and people expecting one didn't do their research. It's very much like someone going out and buying WoW and then complaining that they can't play offline.

Sure, Diablo 3 isn't an MMO, but it's definitely an online game. Just because past titles in the series supported offline play does not entitle people to expect the same feature set over a decade later. Blizzard has been nothing but transparent about what exacty D3 is, and if people don't like it they don't have to buy it.

A lot of degrees are pretty worthless these days, but less worthless than a credential in music production. As far as bachelors degrees go, business is probably the only one that will lead to work in the field you studied in. Liberal arts degrees don't train you for anything, and are frankly a hard sell to employers right now in a saturated job market.

If you're dead set on a degree, I'd go business because at least it can land you a job in a mail room or other entry-level position and you can work your way up from there.

Bassnectar interview on NPR. He discuss his influences, his music, and the current state of DJing. by buibuiin electronicmusic

[–]zublits 7 points8 points ago

Bassnectar does his fair share of A to B mixes in Ableton along with his live mixing stuff. Don't get me wrong, Lorin is a fantastic musician, and a talented DJ, just don't get the wrong idea about what he's doing on stage. He does have chunks of live performance in his mixes where he does rehearsed live mashups, but a good portion of his sets are just mixing two tracks together like any other DJ. Nothing wrong with it, but this interview is a little misleading.

Edit: not sure why the downvotes. If you disagree with me have a discussion about it. I'm an Ableton DJ, and producer myself, and Bassnacter is my #1 hero. I've studied what he does extensively and I think I have a pretty good idea of his methods.
