TROPHY CASE

Four-Year Club

I'm moving my Family to Hungary from the U.S. Can anyone share information about life in Hungary?

I can confirm all of the above. And to extend the social and language part: the main issue with it - especially in a small town like Pápa - will be the misunderstanding. And the hungarians willingness to learn (English), is a bit missing... (Which is sad...)

There are some English expat sites with relevant informations but they are Budapest centralized as well:

Anyway: best wishes, and have a good time!

Grab closest book to you, turn to page 50, and post the first full sentence on the page.

Is Gentoo a pain in the ass to learn?

zsoltika 2 points3 points 10 days ago[-]

I had used it for several years - and still would, but not on my most recent netbook (8 GB SSD only) -, and had learnt a huge part of my (gnu/)linux knowledge be installing AND using it. Before I had started I was a GUI guy. Now I'm on CLI. Like using Powershell on Window$ if I could. And it never hurt my ass. No pain. But gain. Once upon a time I even compiled OpenOffice on a P II 300 computer. Let me tell you: it took time (and not worth it)...

Gentoo is a great platform for learning. I got to the point when I had submitted meaningful bug reports with patches. And emerge scripts for new packages (although some of them are still not accepted, who knows why...).

Who else has a stack of books in their room they want to read but keep getting distracted by the internet?

And the problem is (besides having two small kid (which is not really a problem (but sometimes two), and makes me really happy), that I keep browsing daily the book recommend sites, and online bookstores, spending ~ 2000 USD on books last year... But, but, there is the internet... And I love it.

It is... almost. I'm happy user for 3 years now. I only miss some automatic export function to e.g. QIF as my wife would prefer that.
