The Matrix of Patriarchy by zachbarnettin Feminism

Yes, because you chose this example precisely to illustrate this ambiguity.

Here's a real example. It took me a few minutes, but ultimately, I realized that it was satire.

I reject Poe's law. If one truly understands the position being satired, she/he can almost always distinguish a genuine expression of the view and a satire of it.

Even if I had a quote from Ishida himself saying

I subscribe to Patriarchy Theory,

you still would retort that it is possible for a person to assert something he does not believe. Could I be wrong that Ishida subscribes to Patriarchy Theory? Of course. But if you take a moment to read his comics, it will be clear that this possibility is rather remote. A large number of his comics display that same vertical text. The text represents the Patriarchy and it does not come off as jokey or satirical.

True, but a feminist is unlikely to find the idea utterly absurd and worthy of ridicule. (Moreover, Ishida does subscribe to it, but you don't have to take my word for it.)

I do not like broccoli. I haven't liked it since I was a little kid and my mother made me eat it. And I'm President of the United States and I'm not going to eat any more broccoli.

If you had to find a cure to cancer to get to level 70 in WoW, a cure would have been found by now, and probably more than one.

You're close.

If you make a popular video game out of some task... then it follows that some people are going to be incredibly fucking good at it.

All we need to do is make a video game out of... curing cancer or something.

Hm. Good points. That's also what many of my friends take from it. It is definitely funny, but there's something about it that rubs me the wrong way. I'll think about it.

FYI: Those comics were twelve years ago, and Ishida's increased appreciation of feminism has happened since.

The point of feminism is not to point the blame-finger. It's to end gender oppression. bell hooks has made this point.

By your logic, you shouldn't like the film Tough Guise either. The film explores the effects of dominant, violent, sexist portrayals of men in the media. Its goal is to educate us so that we can all break out of a harmful, oppressive, violent cycle. The film doesn't "excuse male violence." Just the opposite. But if we remain ignorant of the environmental factors that tell us men and boys that violence against women is acceptable, appropriate, and even expected... then we may never be able to move beyond it.

You're the one that looks stupid here. Tatsuya Ishida (creator of Sinfest) is a feminist (though an imperfect one (aren't we all?)). Here is a discussion of feminism in the Sinfest forum.

However you are right that we feminists often fail to recognize when something is critiquing feminism. Here is one that feminists apparently love, but to me feels like a mean-spirited, stupid critique.

In that case, I recommend Seabiscuit.

It starts off pretty boring, but once you get into it, you won't put it down. Simply incredible.

You're welcome.

I was never a big reader all through high school and most of college (and I'm still not), but I have found a few books that I absolutely love and swear by.

For you, though, it depends on what your interests are. Do you like music? Culture? Games/puzzles? Philosophy? Religion? Atheism? Food? All of the above?
