We thought the rescue would take them if we had them spayed/neutered, but they still said no. :( If it was just that, we could come up with the money to do that. The lady doesn't want to keep them because of her other animals and because of her baby, so I don't think she wants to foster, but I'll suggest it. Thanks for the response!

Rabbits in South Carolina need rescuing asap

A lady contacted the shelter where I was volunteering at, but we don't take rabbits. Someone dumped rabbits into the woods where she lives. She caught the first one, and it was in bad shape, but it's doing much better now. She said she had seen two others, but then thought they were gone because she didn't see them for a few days. However, they were still there and she caught a glimpse of them again, looking very bad. She started putting food out, and someone from the shelter used a trap and caught one of them. They're trying for the other one tomorrow. This lady can't keep them, but she doesn't want to just give them away to someone who might feed them to their snake or dog or whatever, or that won't care for the rabbits the way they should be. They haven't been spayed/neutered yet either. We have tried all the rabbit rescues we can find around here, but none of them are taking rabbits. Apparently Craig's list is full of people trying to give away bunnies. The only thing I've been able to get out of the shelter is someone to trap the ones still in the woods. I've tried everything I can think of to help this lady but we're kind of stuck. Does anyone here want to adopt a few rabbits, or know someone who would? Any help would be appreciated!

** Update - the lady contacted me again and said the second rabbit looks and smells really bad. If she can get their skin cleared up, the shelter said they would take it to Petsmart for their adoption day program. They still haven't caught the third one yet. The second bunny has mange pretty badly.

There will never be a shortage of dogs or cats. Millions of them are killed every year, and of those dogs, many are trained, well bred dogs whose owners were just irresponsible. There is nothing wrong with these dogs. It is always better to adopt than to go through a breeder. If you really think a particular breed is better, then adopt one of that breed from a rescue. There is no shortage of those either. Having worked in a shelter, I have seen what these animals go through and it's horrible. They haven't done anything wrong to be treated as disposable. They should never be seen as disposable. I have not seen anyone complaining about having a pet snake, unless it's an exotic species that was trafficked from the rainforest.

I think it applies to bats, as they are an important part of the ecosystem and they're dying off. The same goes for snakes.. as long as it's a native snake.

Learn to cook beans and rice. I've seen a few threads about that in here. Also look for local places where they give away day old bread and stuff like that.

I have a blind kitty, Rudy, who reddit helped us save. He's now a very happy and spoiled boy (I ended up adopting him). If this kitten is blind, he will learn to adjust, especially since he's so young. Rudy needs a little extra attention. We can't move things around on him, and he has a set of steps to climb up on the bed, but he gets around just fine. Rudy was dumped off at the shelter where I volunteer, and I'm so glad we were able to save him. Thank you for helping this baby. If you can't find anyone to adopt him, there is a blind cat rescue in North Carolina. They have a facebook and will post about blind cats in shelters all over the country to help them get adopted.
