It's awesome. Wait until the sonograms when you can see him/her moving around in there. It will blow your mind.

How to tell the family? by detenin predaddit

[–]witty_username 1 point2 points ago

I had my parents close their eyes and gave them each a sign that said "I'm gonna be a grandpa" or "I'm gonna be a grandma." Then I had them open their eyes and read each others' sign. It was pretty sweet. They totally lost their shit. I am the only child though and that was the first grandchild, so that was a big part of it.

I would have named my dog Squarepusher but I would have gotten too many weird looks at the dog park.

I don't but I have read about him and was always meaning to get around to it. Definitely seems to have that surly badass vibe. Thanks for the reco! I will definitely check him out.

Oh come on now. How about this - I apologize. Don't you see the irony of arguing over a thread about not having friends?

Come back and talk to me when you hit the 4 year mark noob.

I thought the guy's whole point was "life sucks right now but one day you'll find people like you." I'm pretty sure he said something like "maybe in college, maybe later in life, maybe online." He didn't just say "Dude, fuck everyone else, they suck, go watch Star Wars."

Believe it or not, sometimes it really isn't you - it's them. Now, who can say what kind of instance this is? Is the kid just stuck in a shitty town full of assholes, or is he socially awkward for some unknown reason? I think the guy who knows him in real life is in a better position to judge the situation than us people sitting here in Internet world.

I used to dismiss country as crap, but now I can listen to it. Only the classic stuff and some bluegrass really, but still, that's a start. All I had ever heard was the modern pop garbage and thought that was what country was really about. But just like every genre, the most popular mainstream stuff can often be on the crappier side.

Who knows this kid better? A bunch of anonymous strangers on Reddit, or a grown man who spends time with him in the real world? Apparently, as usual, Reddit knows best.

Hey kid, don't listen to those guys who have been helping you build up your self esteem at the gym. Listen to some commentors on an Internet forum who don't know you and will be looking at cat memes two minutes after giving you advice.

I'm a little late to the party here, but I would like to list this post as an example of how irritating and pretentious r/foodforthought and r/truereddit can be.

Nice, well-written inspirational story about a guy trying to cheer up an unhappy teenager. I almost got choked up reading it. Then I come to the comments, and surprise surprise, the top one is "Why this is wrong."

I know these subreddits are supposed to be about intelligent posts and reasonable conversation, but the comments sections too often turn into know-it-all show off celebrations - at least in my opinion.

In my group of friends, we used to have one guy who would disagree with everyone, no matter what they said. He just liked to disagree and be right, subconsciously I think. We called him Negativo. Lots of Negativos here.

What do you guys think about Noctourniquet? (New album by The Mars Volta) by Res_Roin LetsTalkMusic

[–]witty_username 1 point2 points ago

I think it's a decent listen. For me personally, most of their stuff is way to wanky and pretentious, lots of noodling and wailing. I recognize that's why people like them, but I prefer the more structured song-based approach of this album. No 20-minute jams.

Overall I still like ATDI better.

All of my moms concert ticket stubs from the 70's and early 80's. Her most expensive concert was Rolling Stones for $10, right by the stage. by RosieRose23in Music

[–]witty_username 0 points1 point ago

Well, if you're not going to pay for albums, they're going to make it up with higher concert fees. In the 70s and 80s, artists could make a living off album sales. That's not true any more for most bands.

Oh really? That's funny because most of my friends are pretty intelligent people and when we have conversations it doesn't sound like a bunch of philosophy grad students double checking each other's logic. We can actually hold opinions and make jokes without having to first clarify every statement we make.

I agree with you, but this article was just so trite. The guy was actually going on about how amazing it is when they sing the Star Spangled Banner at baseball games, and then tying militarism to sports - as if that connection is a good thing. I mean, come on, really? There are a lot of great things about the US and I'm glad I live here, but I just can't stand the fake, cliched way conservatives blather on about patriotism.

Hey, I have a great life too. But just because we're doing well, that doesn't make it okay that many millions of other people in this country are living in poverty... real wages are lower than they were 30 years ago... etc...
