An idea: what the girlf and I do is that if it's my night, I pick three movies I'd like to watch, and she picks one out of the three. That way we both get a choice. Then when it's her night, she picks three, I pick one. We take turns and it works out beautifully for the both of us.

However, your husband has to be willing to meet you halfway and from what it sounds like, he might not be game. I hope I'm wrong.
