Where is your hotel if you don't mind me asking? I was in the center of downtown and had no issue.

Everyone's English is amazing in Montreal. Out of all the cities I've been towhere English was not the primary language (Playa de Carmen, Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, and Berlin), I had the least issue with Montreal.

I haven't taken any French classes since high school and I could still understand most signs and menus. If you ever can't read something, just ask someone. The Canadians are as friendly as their reputation makes them out to be.

I literally just got back from there 2 weeks ago. Had a wonderful time, never had any problems related to the protesting. Everyone in the city was extremely friendly despite the fact that I speak no French.

It was very strange coming back to the hotel at night and seeing news reports about the protests, because it didn't affect my vacation at all. It was almost like it was happening in a different city.

I've never met a hunter in my life who's only spent $100 on ammo. Sure, if you never practice shooting, but also somehow never miss your targets $100 would be more than enough for a lifetime of hunting. I'd be hard pressed to only spend $100 a year on ammo, but I enjoy target shooting.

Haha, that is a valid point. I was only considering centerfire cartridges which can be as low as $.25 a round (FMJ 5.56) up to $3 or more a round (specialty hunting and target rounds). Carbon and even aluminum bolts with a little maintenance can be shot hundreds of times for probably $5 or less per arrow.

At an indoor practice range, I can't imagine any getting lost. Out hunting, maybe a few a year at most, but it still wouldn't make up the difference in cost.

Ammunition should end up cheaper in the long run if you consider each bolt fired vs each bullet fired. Even with reloading you should get many more shots per dollar with a crossbow.

Are you implying they're more dangerous because the increased poundage might result in the string or frame breaking? Or are you referring to injury caused from drawing the string? In the first example, all weapons should be inspected before use for abnormal signs of wear. In the second example, you can buy a crossbow crank which eliminates any back injuries from drawing and allows many disabled people to still hunt.

The kinetic energy delivered from most modern crossbows is pretty much the exact same as modern compound bows, so any target shot by equal should have approximately the same lethality.

As for other safety features, many crossbows now come with a feature that prevent dry-firing. Finally, what archer can have an arrow fully drawn (recurve or compound) as long as a crossbow can without an accidental release?

Don't get me wrong, I love bows of all kinds, I just don't understand a lot of the hate that crossbows get.

I'd second this. The Excalibur Axiom is a low entry point crossbow that comes with a lot of accessories while still having enough energy to take all NA game if you want to hunt with it.

While I agree that bending rules to allow for fun is important. I must also stress that you don't make a classic DM mistake: "My girlfriend gets overpowered, because she's my girlfriend and that's the only way she'll play." It'll likely ruin the experience for everyone else.

One suggestion to keep everything in balance is to have the entire party be "awakened zombies" trying to discover why and how they were brought back from the dead, all while being hunted by zealous clerics.

Not the person who posted the above comment, but you should downsize to a 64GB ssd and toss in a 1TB hard drive. 160GB will be gone so damn fast. Put your os broswer and most applications on the SSD. Your games will have to go on the HD though.

Am I the only one that thinks it's kind of shitty for your DM to make you reroll all of them? I think at most I'd drop 3 of the 18's down to 16, but I kind of like sticking with what the dice have given you. Plus it makes the characters with bad stats that much more awesome for surviving big challenges.

Hopefully I've managed to avoid this. I normally optimize my characters somewhat, but not full on munchkin with disregard to flavor. For this character I've put basically no thought into how to make her stronger and gone for full flavor. I'm going for more of a "face" role as well, so hopefully I won't dominate combat.
