Oh man, good times. I wonder if it's still available.

Looking for recommendations by RoarK5in boardgames

The Europe map is more complex and interesting, plus the game offers the addition of train stations, which are a neat tool. Marklin is good, too, but adds too much with the passengers, IMO.

I would add that you should definitely pick up a version of TTR for your collection. It doesn't necessarily offer new complexity, but it is such an entertaining system with long-term playability.

Dominion, as others have said, is a no-brainer. Puerto Rico and Race for the Galaxy never grabbed me, though. That's the thing: with this hobby, you have to be prepared to throw down $40 and end up disappointed sometimes. Games that seem like sure bets because they're in the top 50 on Board Game Geek aren't guaranteed entertainment for everyone.

I would also recommend Stone Age, based on our shared appreciation for Settlers and Carcassone. It's a step up in depth, but not too far.

It was a great answer. Now I want to buy Jaipur and Jambo! Lost Cities is one of my favorite quick 2-player games.

What are some boardgames to play with people who don't enjoy "advanced" boardgames? by efischerSC2in boardgames

Love this one. Even the instructions are entertaining -- great sense of humor all around.

No Thanks is pretty much the most accessible game I've ever encountered. I've even got grandparents playing it, who haven't played a game in decades, and back then it was probably Candyland or Monopoly with their kids.

Oh, great point about the kid factor. When my son reaches gaming age, I'll choose Zooloretto over Coloretto.

I've never not had fun playing Apples to Apples. It's really simple, but highly amusing.

Cosmic Encounter has been a dud in my collection. I like it, but no one else wants to play it even a second time.

Lowering the bar? Those two games are among the most recommended 2-player games on BGG. That's how I found them in the first place.

BC and LC are two fantastic games, light or not. And I've yet to find a woman interested in Memoir; I didn't proclaim that zero females enjoy war games, and you can't seriously be suggesting that they choose them equally as often as men do.

Go for the card game. Way cheaper, same mechanics, same fun. Unless you dislike abstract themes.

I would suggest Ticket to Ride: Europe; it's just as easy to pick up, but offers more depth than the original.

Settlers is a no-brainer. You can get a lot of people excited about gaming with that one. It was my gateway game, too.

Memoir 44 is a great choice for 2-player gamers. But for a more gender-neutral 2-player choice, you can't go wrong with either Balloon Cup or Lost Cities.

Pregnant mom says sandwich arrest was 'horrifying' by GeoAsherin Parenting

I can't imagine having my child taken away from me, even for 18 hours. That is an awful overreaction to $5 theft, intentional or not.

Eating in the store is disgusting? Really? I get the stance on having to pay first, but what's wrong with eating something while you shop?

We're nearly as far now from 1985 as Marty Mcfly was from 1955 in Back to the Future.

The Big Bang Theory is completely ridiculous by jmvyperin atheism

This strikes me as a very common experience. I saw a stat the other day about something a majority of Catholics believe, and it was something that disagrees with the actual Catholic position. Can't find it, though. But the point remains, and it links to one of the major criticisms of religion: the millions of mild, everyday practioners enabling the few extremists.
