I want to make a stained glass transom window. by tomyownrhythmin DIY

[–]tomyownrhythm[S] 0 points1 point ago

Rock on, let's do it! I got a kit from Delphi that includes an iron. I'm holding off on a grinder until I make sure I like the work. In the mean time, I bought a sanding pad.

Between your post and Ironshovel's, I have everything I could have hoped for from reddit. You guys are fantastic. Because the ceiling of my old house's living room has been dropped, this transom window will not be visible from inside. I plan to insulate the space where the window was, install an array of LED's controlled by a switch (removing the unused porch light), and back-light the window.

So being airtight isn't essential to the project, but I would much rather learn correct technique from day one. Who knows what future projects may need!

I actually did buy the lead came starter pack from Delphi, as well as the glass for my project. That said, I'm going to investigate classes before I start cutting. Thank you!

Wow. I could not have asked for a more thorough post. Thank you very much! I think I'll be in touch with Cathedral Stained Glass to find out what the class offering are like. So far, I've been reading everything on here and working my way through watching this guy. Hands-on teaching just can't be beaten, though.

Thank you again. This is fantastic!

Thanks! I guess this will teach me that I can't trust the reddit search bar! *That said, /r/stainedglass is pretty inactive.

Buying my first scooter! Or, where the heck should I get it from? by CravingSunshinein scooters

[–]tomyownrhythm 0 points1 point ago

Just remember that a cheap scooter (quality, not price) will cost you in repairs in the long run, and may be a death trap. I've heard horror stories of "China jawns" rusting and falling apart at high speeds. Scoot Safe!

Try Craigslist and have the mom's bf check it out before you purchase. Anything you try to get that's worthwhile at that price will be second hand.

Can you find another shop a few hours away and get it there? Perhaps your mom's boyfriend can arrange to borrow a flatbed or trailer to get it back to your area so your first ride isn't a white-knuckle marathon.

Do's and don't of being an office assistant? by ryanj21in jobs

Heed the other advice to be approachable and friendly. Also, find a way to make yourself an information broker. When someone asks you how to get something, don't tell them where to go; offer to get it for them. When someone wants to know where's a good place for lunch, offer to make a reservation. Just generally invite people to rely on you, and you'll end up indispensable.

Call the dealers and see if they have any trade-ins for sale. Also, before you buy anything, make sure you have a mechanic who can work on and inspect them for you.

I don't have any experience ordering from a website, but I've only ever heard to stay clear of them. Good luck!

When the interviewer does all the talking by petdancein jobs

[–]tomyownrhythm 2 points3 points ago

This happened to me in an interview a few months ago. Basically, the interviewer would start to ask a question, but keep elaborating until it became more of a story. I politely waited until the end of the story, then said "To answer your question..." I'm not sure if it was a test or not, but I think it shows that I was listening and retained the information.

I start that job a week from Tuesday.

Wouldn't it be lovely if companies were required to give non-parent employees a paid sabbatical every so often? I'm sitting here trying to figure out an equitable system of administering this benefit so that people don't take that leave, then get knocked up and take maternity leave.

I'm going to go with the lack of shame. Affection, too, but really the lack of shame.

1) I don't derive my self-identity from my eating habits. I mentioned my eating habits with this label because it was relevant to the felchdork's question. 2) Omni is a similarly useful description of one's diet. The majority of the human race is omnivorous; I only used it as a distinction from vegetarian. 3) As I noted above, 6" is a bit much, and I've never complained about less. I think it's silly to assume that my reasons for my diet choices are because of my "bleeding vagina." People choose not to eat meat for many reasons, but since I'm not a preachy person, I won't go into them here. Also, reducing living, feeling things to "genetically modified hunks of meat" is disrespectful. It that's an accurate assessment, you don't think highly of the food you put in your body.

I don't insist on the open top because I understand the grilling quality issue. 6" is just an approximation; a bit less is fine, but what I'm really getting at is that I'd prefer not to have the burgers and hotdogs touch my food. When they're right on top of one another, it's easy to bump them during flipping, that's all.

As a vegetarian, whenever I'm sharing a grill with omnis, I just put down a piece of tin foil and leave about 6" clearance. I prefer to leave the top open, though. It shouldn't be a huge deal.
