Thanks for the very helpful post, you hit on some good points, I'll definitely try to force myself to get more of my protein through meat as opposed to supplements.

I'm not too afraid of gaining weight from my protein shakes, everyone who knows me says I'm too skinny for my own good and no matter how much I eat I seem to be stuck at my current weight.

Since you pointed out the amino acids in protein shakes are of a lesser quality hence not very beneficial, would it make sense to eat meat as well as drink the protein shakes? In doing so it could possibly mean that the higher quality amino acids will help the protein from your shakes to be absorbed (just a crazy theory I came up with right now).

It's not happyness that keeps people from rebelling, it's not knowing how much they're being ripped off.

If they're hungry and defeated though no matter how aware they are of how much they're being ripped off they're not going to be able to have the energy to rebel.

Hey thanks for the response!

My gym equipment is a bench like this

and a second hand gym set a bit like this

Also have dumbells and a range of weights for them.

I should clarify the reason my dead lift probably hasn't improved too much is because I'm really, really cautious when doing it, I keep thinking I'm going to hurt my back or something when I do it. I do 8 reps but they're not particularly heavy reps. Lately though I hav ebeen thinking I should push it further since as far as excercises go that hasn't hurt me much, haven't even noticed any significant backpain like I feared I would.

Thanks for the recomendation to do starting strength, will look into that. I've been doing something I found in an iPhone app lately (Fitness Budy) so probably not the best way to go haha..

Just wondering since I live in the middle of no where and far from any gym I buy my stuff in online stores.

Anyone know what those shorter barbells are called? Namely the one used in this video: http://www.muscleandstrength.com/exercises/standing-barbell-twist.html

All the barbels I see are absurdly long for an exercise like that.

Or maybe I'm just too small (5'6")...

yeah, don't want to sound shallow but one of my goals is to feel confident when shirtless, when I started I was too ashamed to look at myself in the mirror...

That's what I've always figured.

STill there is some reason to not doing reps till fail, many people in construction are very muscular without ever going to the limit. Just consistent heavy lifting..
