Shitty_Watercolor inspired me to try watercoloring. I'm actually really surprised by the result. Thanks Shitty_Watercolor! by asliceofoctopiin pics

I just imagined you seated on a hospital bed, in your gown, just waiting for the surgery to begin. Suddenly the doctor sprints into the room, eyes wide and bloodshot. His fist is drawn back. Six hours later you wake up with a blinding headache and an empty wallet, but your toenail has been fixed.

Add parm. gives you a skill point. I don't think it's worth $200.

I've only ever had this when I was medic healing an enemy spy that backstabbed my teammate. Felt kinda bad about that one.

ELI5: how can cyanide kill in seconds? by fapfruit_juicein explainlikeimfive

A properly applied tourniquet will NOT result in loss of a limb. While tourniquets were thought for a while to be a "last ditch" move, more recent research has revealed that tourniquets can be safely applied for several hours without endangering limbs.

What is your most memorable gym fail? by IThinkImFunnyin Fitness

[–]thesavagemonk 10 points11 points ago

Yes. Because of exactly what is described above. At lighter weights, you may be able to safely dump it to the side, but you also can't see if someone's standing near you. Just learn the roll of shame and don't kill anyone.

He walked like a heavy, he talked like a heavy, but he sure as hell didn't look like one. (Not a randomizer post!) by thesavagemonkin tf2

[–]thesavagemonk[S] 7 points8 points ago

My game glitched pretty badly, and I died. When I respawned, I found this guy running around. He moved at the pace of a Heavy and said Heavy voice commands.

Every time he fired his weapon, his model would point it straight down and he would glide a few inches off the ground, which makes me wish the Heavy could "minigun jump."

If a child were to go into a coma for years and awake in their teens or twenties, would they think more like an adult than they had before? by [deleted]in askscience

So thought is not a biological function? I think what Zakalakin was trying to get at was that the brain (and body) would continue to physically mature as the person grew. In a normal person, physical maturation in the brain occurs alongside cognitive changes.

Speculation: I would like to see some sources to back up the top comment. I suspect that while the knowledge of the person would not change, some of their cognition would change. I think that most people would agree that their capacity to understand concepts and to learn would be increased. I'm not sure though. The top level comment of this thread (currently the highest upvoted comment on the page) seems to be approaching this from a developmental psychology perspective. I'd like to see some input from someone with a neuroscience background.

ELI5: The difference between ibuprofen, advil, and tylenol. by dsolomoin explainlikeimfive

I just wanted you to know that I appreciated this detailed response.

ELI5: The difference between ibuprofen, advil, and tylenol. by dsolomoin explainlikeimfive

[–]thesavagemonk 0 points1 point ago

Can you cite any sources for this?

I disagree. Acetaminophen has no anti-inflammatory properties, so I think Ibuprofen is probably the better choice for musculoskeletal injuries, even if APAP has a greater analgesic effect.

Ibuprofen and aspirin are both NSAIDs, and they both have analgesic properties.

Electronic access to all NFPA codes for one year for one user costs $950.

The NFPA themselves say that 25% of codes change every year.

Simply: Why traps? by KomradeKettlebellin weightroom

[–]thesavagemonk 0 points1 point ago

I find that Farmer's walks only hit my traps if I do lighter weight for longer distance (my normal farmer's walks are about 60 yards long). Have you tried walking with a weight vest? 1.5mi with 70lbs. ends up being an exercise in pain tolerance on my traps usually.

Why I don't trust strange teleporters by dtshenin tf2

[–]thesavagemonk 11 points12 points ago

When I play medic (most of the time) I try to watch the kill feed in the upper right if someone goes through a tele before me. If I see their name pop up immediately after they exit, I take the long way. In the video, the solly gets killed almost the instant he would have exited.

Want: v. Physician's Procedure Mask

My story:

Playing as a new medic on Badwater, I charged my uber just as we got the cart to the first point. I dutifully followed a heavy up to the roof and ubered him as he got the the door. He stood completely still as I thought, "Go idiot! Kill the sentries!" (I didn't own a mic at this point.)

As the uber faded, he slowly turned and looked at me. Then he flickered and changed into a red spy. Then he facestabbed me to death.

He apologized after, but the whole server was laughing at me. So embarrassing. I need the mask to hide my medic's face.

Is there an acceleration limit? by yourstandin askscience

[–]thesavagemonk 7 points8 points ago

As said by several commenters at the top of this thread, a massless particle (like a photon) does not accelerate because it cannot travel at any velocity but c.
