Oh This is Sweet: Senate Banking Investigation of JPMorgan to be Headed by Former JPMorgan Lobbyist by Mind_Virusin politics

Oh! And what I wanted you to see from the wikipedia article are the sources the author themselves used. Citations 13-21 I believe.

We actually spend several thousand dollars more per student now than we did decades ago, and where has education gone? I certainly believe we should stop our imperialist ways and end the drug war, but we should also stop subsidizing the poor education of our children and the teachers unions that prevent any kind of change in the education system.

Well to me it's not cool-aid. I don't necessarily agree with all economists in Friedman's field, and I'm certainly not an anarchists. Freedom and liberty are the best options, and they come with heavy responsibilities for all, ya know?

That was just what was off the top of my head, the empirical evidence exists in your bank account. The cost of healthcare has skyrocketed in spite of all government efforts to regulate it over the last forty years or so. Something you probably enjoyed, Michael Moore's "Sicko", precisely illustrates that, although in a fairly slanted way that doesn't really explain much. But it does very well illustrate the relationship between Nixon and Kaiser and how they were in bed with each other, which precisely shows how big government and big business get together to screw you, the American citizen, over.

And we should've never been in Iraq in the first place.

Halliburton made so much money in Iraq because of the incestuous crony capitalism that big business and big government engage in currently.

Comparing the Chinese and Japanese experience of racism in America and African Americans is apples and oranges, and quite frankly, offensive. But I'm not going to engage in an exercise of comparative suffering. Are you to suggest that perhaps blacks in America have something wrong with them compared to other races?

What I'm arguing is that you are opening up a new government run Wal-Mart, it's just instead of selling cheap chinese made clothes, they sell healthcare. Not only do you not have the choice in going to a different Wal-healthcare-Mart, you're forced to buy it from that one, single Wal-healthcare-Mart. That's not a free market, that's not choice. Driving is one of the most dangerous things I can do, some 40,000 people die in car wrecks every year (about 35% of death by accidents as a whole) yet I can get extremely cheap car insurance, and I have choices in choosing what car insurance companies I go with. If you give the consumer the choice, they'll make the one in their own best self interest; the best combination of value and service. That's efficiency, that's a free market, and that's a solution. We are the economy, it's not some made up thing, you with your money in your wallet. I want you to keep as much money of that is possible so that you can tell where our economy to go, and not have a bureaucrat in your back pocket saying "woah buddy, we have to take a big cut as well, since we did sooo much for you. Like give you a shitty education, leave you and your children in massive debt (how big is the national deficit at this point?), and on top of that have you pay for your kid to fly off and kill farmers and religious nuts somewhere off in the middle east. You're even going to pay for the bullets and bombs.

Yeah, that sounds wrong to me.

Calling our government non perfect is a huge understatement I believe. It's not Google starting wars in the Middle East, or Yahoo! pounding down my door with a search warrant because I smoke pot. And with statistics like that, a President that promised "Hope and Change", I'd imagine that race is very much an issue within our country.

What's the difference between a rich person and a successful person? If you had a great idea and made money from it, why should you not keep the fruits of your labor, and try to gain more? Self-interest is what drives and directs the economy, not a bureaucrat at the Fed.

And what makes transportation so special? Perhaps the reason airlines fail is because it's a shitty business that doesn't work in the scope or scale of what the market needs or wants or is willing to pay for at the moment. Perhaps if airlines failed, the demand for high speed rail (which also leaves a substantially smaller carbon footprint) would skyrocket. You'd get from New York to Los Angeles a bit slower, but it'd be cheaper and a more pleasant experience.

Basically anything that is suppose to put equality over efficiency.

I'm sorry, but I had to pick out this one comment, and present you with this: This same government you believe should intervene in matters of "equality", how much equality do you see in terms of poverty, the prison population, disease, etc? All of these disproportionally effect minorities, and it's been almost than 5 decades since LBJ declared the "War on Poverty", and more than 4 decades since Nixon declared the "War on Drugs", and what's happened? We have the largest prison population in the world where blacks alone comprise almost 40% of those incarcerated. We've had decades of affirmative action, yet 36% of blacks are in poverty, compared to 14% of whites, and those blacks that are employed make 78 cents on the dollar compared to whites.

Please, tell me again how the benevolent government puts equality over efficiency.

Cable television providers are actually a perfect example of government-sponsored monopolies. In order to be able to provide cable television to a certain region in accordance with the Telecommunications Act of 1996, you must gain a franchise license from the government of the community they wish to serve. You can imagine how ripe an opportunity this is for cronyism and nepotism. The original idea behind this was to make it easier for government to regulate the rates of television providers, instead rates have only increased.

True. And small government would allow easier market access for new competition. Your small company gets bought out, you take the money you made from the buy out and start en even bigger company. Eventually YOU buy Comcast, that's how a free market works.

In my city of San Francisco, they might as well throw money at the driver's union and maintenance workers, yet we still have the worst on time rate in the country. And I think we can all agree to the generally unpleasant experience of flying, perhaps airlines should be allowed to fail.

Well if everyone had to choose a private school through tax vouchers, wouldn't there be private schools for everyone? Healthcare is not a free market, plain and simple.

[–]thebryanator 5 points6 points ago

private school system would cut corners and threaten the children's education

Which is why private school students often have better grades and get into better colleges. Also why many parents enter a lottery system to get into private "charter schools". Yep, private education is a terrible thing.

Sure, I got a few of those things. Could I of gotten them for cheaper in a free market? You bet. I'd love to know how all this lovely healthcare and free education has helped us, America's schools are terrible for the most part and healthcare is more expensive then it ever has been.

I'm the victim of propaganda? Please, I don't watch Fox news, MSNBC, or even CNN. I read Al-Jazeera and books from my local library. Just because someone has an opinion different from yours you discount it as foolishness. I want the government out of my life and my pocket book, God forbid libertarians ever took over. All they would want to do is leave you and your money alone, so you can do as you please without causing harm to others. And for Christ's sake, learn how to spell.

Try not to confuse a democratic republic and mob rule, I think you can see the difference when it comes to the issue of gay marriage and marijuana.. And if the majority often make the "wrong choice", as you or I see it, doesn't that mean perhaps it would be best if everyone did right by themselves and not try force their wrong decisions on everyone else? And again you bring up the "orphan disease", if you're concerned about it, in a proper, free, liberty-loving society you could start a wonderful non-profit and help provide funding for that disease. The reason that pharmaceuticals are crazy expensive in the first place is because of government regulation, certification, and monopolies granted by government to pharmaceutical companies through insane patent law.

I pose this question for you, do you plan for me for do I plan for you? I'd rather groups of concerned citizens got together, planned, and solved problems in their community, not wait for a bureaucrat to figure it out for them.
