Well look, we get enough of this discussion in this subreddit (and pretty much every other venue, online or off, where Japan resident foreigners congregate) that I thought it relevant to put things in perspective.

It's been popular the last couple of weeks to discuss so-called "microagressions", or minor things about which foreign residents of this country (especially westerners) can be really sensitive. Reading this article was quite sobering to me after seeing all that stuff show up on this subreddit, since it really did serve to remind me that often we foreignerpersons are misplacing our anger.

I wasn't inviting discussion about how other Asian countries are "worse". I would, rather, invite discussion on how more attention should be paid to things that really matter, such as housing refusal incidents, or even workplace immigrant exploitation. Anything but the occasional request to see one's "papers", or the damn chopsticks thing again.
