Which ORM do you use and why? by tastierrobboin dotnet

[–]terrble 1 point2 points ago

We use EF 4.3/5 code first w/ migrations when we have to go relational - you gotta try the migrations, they are fantastic

I never want to use NH again, however there is one thing from NH I miss in EF: custom user types, IUserType basically

TCU on Thanksgiving

Texas and Texas A&M both have open dates on November 17th. by 52hoovain CFB

[–]terrble 0 points1 point ago

I'm not sure what Texas could want more than a nationally televised, charged up, historically important and modernly riveting rivalry game on Thanksgiving?

We'll still have that against a conference opponent. And in a way that will not possibly glorify the SEC. Whom we compete with at a conference level for recruiting, SOS, and media deals.

not wanting to be politically involved with Texas does not somehow cancel out the desire to be athletically involved with Texas

To paraphrase the DeNiro character in A Bronx Tale, "if you have desire in one hand and a pile of poop in the other, what do you have?"

How does Wyoming help Texas play in the NCG? Only by padding the schedule with an easy win.

Nationwide this is a key strategy for non conference games.

Texas' resume

B12 doesn't need help on the SOS front. The non conference schedule being cake is far more important in the BCS.

I would hope you would not want an easy path to the NCG by having cupcake OOC games.

I hear you. The argument I've heard from Aggies is, "what you're afraid to play us?" And in the context of fandom, it's a good, if goading, retort. But in the context of winning: it's emotion-oriented rather than national championship-oriented. That's all I got on that unfortunately.

I think the mindset of "what can the game do for me" is very short sighted. The game can, and will do much for Texas. You will make more money than if you played Wyoming. You will get another great game on your schedule and another great home atmosphere every other year. Texas wins, Texas A&M wins, the state of Texas wins, CFB wins, so I really don't see any reason against the game other than pride and some paperwork.

I just don't see it. Money is not the issue, like you said. We're rich beyond our wildest dreams. And there's no other reason to play - except to be involved in some sort of gracious donation.

I don't know where you're getting that from.

I think that dependency is the rationale for the conference switch and that the conference switch is the evidence for the dependency. I do not think, if Texas A&M had a satisfactory amount of autonomy in the Big 12, they would have switched.

refusing to admit that A&M is a real rival or worthy of their time.

That's the thing man. One doesn't admit to being a rival - one is a rival. There's nothing to admit. To personalize it as an example, you can't decide to be my rival without my agreement.

And how does that motivate Texas to play Texas A&M?

edit: Another question: how does a Texas A&M game help Texas play in and win the NCG? If tradition was so important, the conference jump might have been more deeply considered.

edit2: grammar.

I understand you will be disappointed. And you've made an argument that money isn't the issue for Texas. So looking at it from the other side, if you will - since money is not the issue - what do you think would motivate Texas to play Texas A&M?

Spite, I guess. Texas A&M needs Texas more than Texas needs Texas A&M. Watching them squirm to contest us brings some immature and base satisfaction.

edit: Based on my discussion with a few Aggie fans below, I'm changing my answer here. They've helped me understand that a Texas A&M game doesn't help Texas play in or win the NCG. The argument to play, for some, seems to be because the Texas/Texas A&M game is my favorite! I want it! NOT because it's the winning move.

edit 2: Because it isn't the winning move. It's giving something to an organization that competes on the field and in Texas high schools.

Texas A&M desperately needs this game. This is what the entire conference split was about. They desperately need to be involved with Texas. There's proof: when they finally recognized this dependency as the massive problem that it is, they severed the conference bonds in a scorched-earth attempt to fix it as fast as possible. I think that was probably the best long term move for the Aggies.

In the meantime, until Texas A&M establishes its own identity, these emotional yelps for a game are like cries from a baby weaning off it's mothers' milk. This too shall pass. It's for the best. It's time to grow up, Texas A&M.

What exactly happened here? Did the editor simply fabricate the news? Seems like if it were a misinformed source or the result of a bad investigation this would just be a simple mistake. Only a fabrication would result in a resignation.

Is the Xbox controller the best gamepad for PC? by terrblein gamingpc

[–]terrble[S] 0 points1 point ago

does the razer 360 controller do the auto-setup like the MS 360 controller?

most games recognize it automatically and adjust all displays, tutorials, and control schemes accordingly. No fiddling around in menus or assigning actions to the controller. The game just acts like it was made for a controller as is!

You sure? Here's an excerpt from Wulfmare's Guide to Better Thieving:

As far as the approach goes, don't drop into your crouch until you are completely out of the mark's view - directly behind and preferably close to them. Don't spend too long deciding what you'll lift either. A good thief should be able to hit a mark and make off with something valuable in less than five seconds. Last of all, plying this trade at night will greatly reduce your chances of getting caught.
