TROPHY CASE

Does anyone know exactly what this "amazing breakthrough in math" actually is? Calculating the path of a ball is not that difficult. by mk_geckoin Physics

You're still butt hurt by the demise of roman numerals for calculations. Fucking Fibonacci.

From the date that Obama was inaugurated to present, the national debt has risen $5 trillion or over 50%. by dieyoungin politics

[–]tau-lepton 0 points1 point ago

Absolutely, it does matter. Current ten year treasury bonds have a 1.98 percent interest rate, rates ten years ago (when we were borrowing money to invade Iraq and Afganistan and pay for non-stimulative tax cuts for high incomes) had a 5.2 percent interest rate.

I'm sure you can do the math, it's roughly 99 billion per year versus 260 billion per year on 5 trillion.

GOP claim that President Obama has "spent more than every other president combined" is a total fabrication by HouseSpeakerin politics

[–]tau-lepton -4 points-3 points ago

Yes, most democrats do, but between big corporate contributions, and republican opposition, they have not seen a way to make it happen. The debt ceiling does not need to be raised until the first or second quarter of next year, and the Bush tax cuts expire January 1.

I can't help but think that someone figured this out the last time a compromise was reached on the debt limit.

So the republicans don't have the leverage this time around, and most voters are in favor of increasing taxes on income above $500,000, and many are in favor of increasing capital gains taxes.

That's true of virtually all, if not all, presidents since Lincoln. Under Obama the rate of spending growth has been reduced, hardly an inferno. But it would have been better for the economy and the debt if there had been some serious infrastructure spending.

It's the lender's responsibility to establish that the borrower will be able to pay back the loan. If the banks are counting on these loans as being "not defaultable", then they are in for a huge surprise. You can't garnish the wages if the person has no wages to garnish.

The, sort of, good news is that the federal government now owns much more of that debt, so it should be easier to quickly restructure. The banks have been horrible at restructuring loans, even though they have been instructed to do so.
