Hey Reddit - What's one character you cannot stand from a show or movie you otherwise enjoy? by euphoniumatemydingoin AskReddit

[–]sunsunsun 0 points1 point ago

I'm glad that I'm not the only one to think this. I always thought he was a one joke character.

Fuck you she's awesome.

No, I understand. It seems as if the writers have always had trouble writing for her. She's just a stereotypical Black Conservative Christian mother. You'll notice that she rarely moves plots, as everyone else gets to do things that are interesting. Shirley got pregnant and she got back with her ex, and that's more of a progress than anyone else in the series has made, but she rarely actually has a major role in the plot.

That was sort of the point though. He was supposed to be unlikeable.

I dunno, I sort of liked him. I loved Frank. Season Two was a weird one for sure.

Maybe 5% of FA is now single due to this? by Black_Goldin ForeverAlone

[–]sunsunsun 2 points3 points ago

Thanks, I appreciate it but I think this is even more rationalization. Not nearly as toxic of a rationalization, though. I stumbled upon the realization that there are "soul mates" for some people and not for others. I am the type of guy that would be happy with a lot of different women, not because I have low standards but because I am a very agreeable, open minded person who is open to new experiences. In the words of Love,

You know that I could be in love with almost everyone
I think that people are
The greatest fun

I suppose that I am a Forver Alone anomoly in that regard. I have grown to love huge parties and I can hold my own in a night club. There isn't really such a thing as bad company to me. But I can walk away in the morning feeling more lonely than ever.

[–]sunsunsun 2 points3 points ago

Here's why I once had high standards: Because I was insecure as everliving fuck and I wanted to rationalize not pursuing women that I found to be attractive because I feared rejection / embarrasment / exposing myself as a weak person. As painful as being single is to me, it's also for the most part comfortable. It was me trying to turn the low road into a high road. I now have other reasons for being FA, but I now am brave enough to admit that standards play no part in it.

Who is a comedian you find overrated? by ArcticBroin AskReddit

[–]sunsunsun 9 points10 points ago

I consider him to be overrated not because he's a terrible comedian but because he's an above average comedian who is treated like the second coming of Jesus by the exact same people that are commenting that Dane Cook and Carlos Mencia and Jeff Dunham are overrated. His perpetual existential crisis shtick gets on my nerves.

What are your favorite movie speeches? by stanleyisawesomein AskReddit

This is one of my favorites as well. It is the face of pure evil in so many ways, but it is put so eloquently and lucidly that it's awe-inspiring.

Indeed so, this is the reason that I've never really liked Superman. I find him interesting, but not likable. How am I supposed to relate to him, you know? I like my superheroes human, thanks. I like it when they have faults instead of weaknesses. Another fact sometimes overlooked is the complete and utter chance involved in Superman's upbringing. He lands in small town America, to parents who provide to him a strong sense of morality. Well, the Earth is 2/3 covered in water. He would have ended up as Aquaman. Much of the Earth is barren desert and frigid ice. Then who knows what happens. And there is, of course, the fact that at the time of Superman's creation he had a decently sized chance of being raised in a Communist country - a possibly explored in Red Son. Superman has no moral backbone to call his own. He is entirely the creation of the world around him, and reflects their systems of values. How on Earth are people supposed to relate to him?

That said I often wear Clark Kent glasses and a Superman undershity while biking to work in 0 degree weather because that makes me feel like a badass.

Why do Science Journals charge so much for access to their online content? Why don't they all go Open Access to lower barriers to information for all researchers, big and small? Is it really just money? I don't get it... by 4ThePeopleMediain self

I used to put a lot of effort into /r/LaymanJournals, which was exclusively open access academic articles that most laymen would be able to work their way through. I don't know, I would be willing to return to it if I saw enough support. Even if not, there's a ton of articles there.

Fox News GOP Strategist: Ron Paul Will Be on the Republican Ticket by Orangutanin ronpaul

Former Ron Paul supporter? by MrJoeFrancoin ronpaul

[–]sunsunsun 0 points1 point ago*

Another former Paul supporter for a hot second in 2008. This ended when I started giving a shit about his positions to more of an extent than "I want these wars to stop". His environmental and social stances are scary to an extent that is not nearly compensated for by his few policies that I agree with.

Edit: To be fair, I think that the essence of the quote is true. You folks are passionate about and devoted to Ron Paul to an extent that Romney, Gingrich, and Santorum (and Obama, to a lesser extent) wish they commanded from their constituents. This subreddit is filled with people who wouldn't jump ship as Perry/Cain/Bachmann's 'supporters' did. And also to be fair, I doubt that it will result in Paul getting either the nomination or a VP spot (which he would likely turn down anyways).

But if all 5 people are lying, then E is lying about himself lying. This is just another way of going about the most basic paradox there is - 'This sentence is false'. Which is why I say that while all others statements are open to interpretation it is simply logically impossible for E to be telling the truth.

[Feb 9] Danger Music...Turn your speakers down. No seriously. by RayningAcidin RedditDayOf

[–]sunsunsun 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, Melt-Banana and Boredoms aren't that far out there. Yamantaka Eye sort of settled down with the Boredoms, which is a pretty crazy thing to say considering how loud, abrasive, and strange they can get. And Melt-Banana is just fun once you accept that they're just going to sound like that. Sort of novelty-y, but still worth listening to. I consider Merzbow to be about par with Hanatarash, perhaps slightly more listenable and perhaps slightly less comprehensible. I don't really have a 'kids and their crazy music' reaction. Can't say the same for the majority of death metal.

Japan is well known for their. Erm. Noise music. I've always been curious about these sorts of things.

You are welcome to compare this concert with Merzbow (again, not safe for ears).

A couple other japanese noise outfits worth looking into. The Boredoms are all over the place, they're sometimes an interesting noise-psych-rock outfit and here, they're sometimes quirky noise stuff, and here they are playing a concert in Brooklyn with 77 drummers in what I imagine to be one of the most intense concerts of all time. The band's discography is fairly extensive.

Also, there's Melt-Banana. This is what I listen to when I run sometimes. It never works out well. A lot of them sound similar, so I'll just post this

The quest for every Dogfish Head beer ever made by Skbitin beer

[–]sunsunsun 3 points4 points ago

You're not alone in this sentiment. She seemed like she wasn't really creating anything new or interesting, but was instead trying to piggyback onto a silly trend that has just as much to do with fine beer as Bud Light does. At no point does she admit that Sparks exists. It was still sort of interesting to see the efforts of an entrepeneur trying to break into the business. But she has since given up. Here is her Moonshot on BA, it recieves a score of 55.

Describe a moment that changed your life forever. by westonwsin AskReddit

[–]sunsunsun 1 point2 points ago*

I was 9. I carried it around with me for a bit, it was very shitty to feel like a pawn/mediator for the next 8 years or so and have to communicate between them and their passive aggressive bull shit and walking the tight rope when they wanted me to pick sides. And then I was in class one day, 20 years old and quite confused about life, when we were sort of talking about divorce, and a girl pipes up and says "I'm glad that my parents were divorced. I'm glad that we live in a culture where divorce is okay"

Ten seconds turned confusion into perspective. What if my parents had stayed together, you know, for me and my brother? What if they had no choice? Everyone tosses that line around, '...for the kids', but I never really thought about how silly it was. Things had been tense between my parents for several years before they seperated. They were responsible enough to hide it from me, and I was too young to read between the lines. It came out of nowhere to me. But what if I spent the next 8 years living with two adults who didn't love each other, where there had to be cataclysmic fights in order for laundry to get done and for the grass to get mowed? What if they were misguided enough to think that one house filled with permanent conflict from a loveless marriage imposed by children was better than two seperate households with parents who could provide just a little bit of stability and order?

The time after their divorce was almost unlivable, literally. I had been in and out of hospitals and on and off medications. Nothing stuck. My brother had dropped out of school and was quite soon addicted to heroin. But I recognized that it was far better than the alternative.

I got up from my seat, already crying a little bit, and snuck out of class. My parents had been right all along - they hadn't been perfect, but they had been right to seperate, they seperated for us. It still rattles my brain a bit when someone can do something that is so traumatizing to someone else, and do so out of the sort of love that parents have for their children. And I could no longer blame them for the immense distress caused by them doing so. I was far too prideful to admit it to them for several years.

So I guess that's two moments.

Talk to strangers
When the family fails and friends led you astray
And buddah laughs and jesus weeps and turns out god is gay.
As angels in disguise love can come in many forms,
The hallways of your projects or the fat girl in your dorm,
And when you finally take the time to see what they’re about
Perhaps you find they’re lonely or their wisdom trips you out.

Maybe you’ll find the cycles end
Right back where you began,
But come this time around
You’ll have someone to hold your hand,
Who prays for you who is there for you
Who sends you love and light,
Exposes you to parts of you
That you once tried to fight.
And come this time around
You choose to walk a different path,
You’ll embrace what you turned away
And cry at what you laughed,
Because that’s the only way
We’re going to make it through this storm,
Where ignorance is common sense
And senseless is the norm.
