Unless you're transitioning from a guitar, banjo, or similar stringed instrument, you won't learn more than a couple basic chords and scales in a week. That being said, the uke is a great introduction to the guitar because 1) it's vastly simpler 2) it's vastly cheaper 3) it's smaller, which helps a lot of people reach the frets, and 4) with some knowledge of music theory, a lot of it is transferable to the guitar.

For those of you who are interested, here is the Wikipedia article on 5150, California's law on involuntary psychiatric hold. Essentially, individuals can only be held involuntarily pending psychological evaluation if they are 1) a threat to themselves, 2) are a threat to others, or 3) if they are gravely disabled, unable to provide food, water, and shelter for them, and it is clear that no one else is willing to do so. Matrice Richardson almost certainly met this third criteria, and thus the police were able to have her involuntarily detained.
