I'm aware that I am missing out on masterpieces, and I don't care. I'm just as bored by recordings. I've tried. I mean, I've contorted my mind enough to like Merzbow and free jazz, and orchestral classical music is plain old boring to me.

In addition to what bootsbaby said: The Ark will sometimes bring in cool people (usually of the singer-songwriter/folk/bluegrass variety), as will the Kerrytown Concert House if jazz/classical music is your thang. Woodruff's in Ypsilanti is great for local music, and there's a couple other places in Ypsi that will occasionally host shows that you shouldn't miss out on. There's all sorts of places around town that are great for singer-songwriter stuff. eCurrent is a good way to keep track of stuff going on.

What bothers me about Stairway to Heaven is 1) The lyrics sound like they're meaningful but aren't. It's like they used refrigerator magnet poetry of post-hippie bull shit. 2) The epicness of it, not sure what the right word would be, seems really quite forced. It sounds like Led Zeppelin had no inspiration but tried really really hard to make it sound like they did have inspiration, which is something they did pretty often.

Just saying, that basic chord progression can be done correctly. Example off the top of my head: Green Day's Dookie is a great album because it doesn't try to be more than about being young, bored, and burnt out. I-V-vi-IV works pretty well for that.

Maybe, but not because Ron Paul is an actual threat to Romney's candidacy. Again, this is how the Republican Party has been successful - they need to operate and vote as a party, and that requires everyone being on the same program. Right now, the program is that Romney is going to be the Republican nominee, and Ron Paul makes the Republican Party look bad.
