I lived in Barcelona for a while and, every now and then, I would met this guy strolling around (usually near the beach or in the city center)....

[ELI5] If Hitler would have won, what were his plans? by JHole04in explainlikeimfive

[–]sorryDontUnderstand 14 points15 points ago

Well... it's true that up until the fifties (when television and pop culture became widespread) people spoke a lot of different dialects, and that there's always been a lot of division and diffidence between the various regions and cities of Italy (particularly between the north and the south), but to say that

the city-states were still declaring war on one another

it's fairly exaggerated... After 1861, Italian city-states didn't exist any more and Italy became officially one nation!

I slept on the top in '99, slipping some notes to the park guide... Seeing the dawn in the jungle was amazing, but I was eaten alive by some kind of bugs :-(

TIL Osama bin Laden was treated in an American hospital in Dubai and met with the CIA and Saudis - two months prior to 9/11 . . .according to French intelligence services by urwrngtrllin todayilearned

[–]sorryDontUnderstand 13 points14 points ago

This:

Prince Turki al Faisal, then head of Saudi intelligence, who had long had links with the Taliban, and Bin Laden.

And, for example, this, have always made me think that things are far murkier than in US official narrative... Let's recap: two allied countries' secret services are probably involved with the supposed masterminds of 9/11 and nobody looks in that direction, or mentions it?

Oh, look! Bad Afghans!

Having breakdowns over small things? by lordkronosin aspergers

[–]sorryDontUnderstand 2 points3 points ago

Yes... I cringe when I remember tantrums I've thrown in the past. I just cannot control myself; or, better, I can tone it down to 50%-60% if I'm in front of other people (not enough not to be ashamed of myself after, anyway) and then I've to vent when I'm alone at home (usually by breaking things). I've breakdowns over random things, usually when I sense friends don't consider me or let me down...

The chair doesn't recline; it's a small Ikea office-chair. My ass shifts on its border until my upper back rests comfortably (?) on the backrest.

I only know that, when I'm at home, after a while I find myself reclining in an almost horizontal posture, with my feet on the desk and my hand reaching the mouse from underneath my knee. Why is that? I correct my position but after a while, bam! here we go again...

What stereotype from about your country is absolutely true? by JesusJuice45in AskReddit

Italians really do move their hands A LOT while speaking. So, the other day I was hit in the face twice while having a walk, by some strangers having a heated conversation, oblivious to the fact that I was passing by.

Was anyone here living in a communist country before 1989? If so, what has it been like before, during, and after the revolutions? by salakastoin AskReddit

As they say, Capitalism means the oppression of the Man by his fellow human beings. Communism, on the other hand, is the opposite.
