My memory is terrible but I seem to recall STALKER 2 being in at least advanced stages of development. Have there been any rumblings of it being picked up by another company and published? Of course I hope GSC's standards and imagination would carry into the next developer's STALKER incarnation if that were the case.
For what it's worth...and I may be slayed for this...Fallout 3, FO: New Vegas, and Skyrim have been great distractions and a lot of fun. The Stalkeresque horror is missing from FO:NV but there is a bit in FO3 as well as its post-apocalyptia environment (and you don;t have to use VATS). I certainly recommend F03 over Metro if one were in search of a STALKER "replacement".
Skyrim is insane. The depth of the characters and stories is incredible and a bit overwhelming. I only have about 30 hours into it so I can't comment too much but Skyrim has been fun.

I am a dedicated STALKER fan and have played both STALKER and Metro. Although $5 is an excellent price for Metro, I would not include it in the same realm as STALKER. In my opinion, Metro is too unidirectional and not as open-world as STALKER. It is very fair to say a STALKER fan might enjoy Metro's survival/ horror/ post-apocalyptic feel, gameplay and environment but I think a caveat that Metro is not a STALKER replacement should be mentioned...which is not what the OP insists.
Again, just an opinion from a long-time STALKER fan.

Agreed. I was moved by TDA but Threads had me in tears and dread. The moribund depiction of what could happen at the hands of a few powerful people is incredibly unsettling.

When you have a moment (ten minutes in fact), check out this animation (see edit for source).
Also, The Day After is disturbing but not nearly as disturbing as BBC's Threads.
Both are excellent depictions/theories of a time-span following a nuclear war however Threads makes The Day After look like a Disney movie. Neither are full of gore, just incredibly depressing.

I went to Petit Le Mans a couple years ago...incredible experience. The access every ticket holder gets at the track is amazing. That the fans can wander around the paddocks during the race shows how excellently fans are treated by ALMS.
I'll post some pics/vids at some point.

The Space Shuttle Main Engines have had several improvements to enhance reliability and power. This explains phrases such as "Main engines throttling up to 104%." This does not mean the engines are being run over a safe limit. The 100% figure is the original specified power level. During the lengthy development program, Rocketdyne determined the engine was capable of safe reliable operation at 104% of the originally specified thrust. They could have rescaled the output number, saying in essence 104% is now 100%. However this would have required revising much previous documentation and software, so the 104% number was retained. SSME upgrades are denoted as "block numbers", such as block I, block II, and block IIA. The upgrades have improved engine reliability, maintainability and performance. The 109% thrust level was finally reached in flight hardware with the Block II engines in 2001. The normal maximum throttle is 104%, with 106% and 109% available for abort emergencies.
