I whole-heartedly agree. The security measures are way too laxed for my liking. Especially after completing my undergraduate degree in NYC about 3 blocks from Ground Zero.

I think so too. But I'm just trying to see if other departments/schools had anything formal like we do.

I've been pretty lucky to have most of my professors comply, but I have one that INSISTS on having us turn in hard copies of our papers (one due next week and another group paper due the following week) and to come in to take our final exam (optional if you did both papers). I understand that he doesn't want his email flooded but I think he should use the digital dropbox option on Courseweb for that.

Anyone else have issues?

GSPIA had a meeting with our Dean and Associate Dean and they talked about this a little bit. They explained to us that the point of the new security procedures is to move towards not having to evacuate for every threat. The theory behind this is that the buildings would be secured and as long as security is following the procedures the threats would be unfounded.

GSPIA grad student chiming in... We received an email from our Interim Associate Dean today regarding this exact concern.

"I am a member of a committee of associate deans... that is dealing with these issues and I know what GSPIA can offer in relation to grading and finals. The committee met for over an hour last Thursday and will be meeting again..."

He also shared that it is no longer mandatory for students to attend classes and that instructors and students have the power to address this concern as they see fit. Professors can award grades based on work turned in thus far or they can give temporary grades like Incompletes and such to allow students more time to complete assignments. Professors also have the power to select alternative locations to hold final exams and even use alternate means such as online lectures and exams.

So from my understanding of all this is it is time for students and professors to have discussions about how they want to handle the rest of the semester. Can you find an alternative location to meet and finish out the term? Is there a method to allow students to complete the remaining coursework without having to come to campus? These are all questions you should be discussing with professors and determining how each course will be handled.

As a Nonprofit Management scholar, these types of activities via the internet are extremely fascinating to me. I want to see more nonprofits transition into using social media and other online sources in order to compliment and potentially eliminate traditional forms of soliciting for donations. I think that it would be great for Reddit to form partnerships with some of these nonprofit organizations. Perhaps designing a sort of sponsorship package for these organizations as to what types of services you would be willing to offer. Ad space? Featured stories? This would help solidify a relationship with these organizations and open doors for new campaigns.

I 1000% appreciate this article. My father is a prick AND a dick, and there is no way he DESERVES to walk me down the aisle after all the shit he's put me through. I thought that maybe my brother should do it since he is the only good male left in my family, but this idea seems so much better to me. Perhaps I will figure out my own version, but I'm glad to know I'm not the only one with a non-traditional situation to go along with my non-traditional views on marriage.
