Quicksilver tells his wife a secret [X-Factor #89] by Biomancerin comicbooks

Can we talk about it? Logan's hair sometimes, too. Hair just doesn't do that, unless you apply MASSIVE amounts of gel, and something tells me Wolverine wouldn't give two fucks about hair gel.

Prof X w/Body of The Hulk vs Batman with 50% strength Superman Powers by Tickthokkin superfight

[–]seancurry1 0 points1 point ago

In that case, yeah, that's the first thing he'd do, then he'd just have to walk to Prof X and knock his wheelchair over...

...UNLESS Prof X got in the mind of a heavyhitter like Hulk or Solomon Grundy. If the universes are merged, and they each had time to prepare, it's a fare thing to assume.

[–]seancurry1 1 point2 points ago

Batman's cowl alone wouldn't do shit, his universe doesn't have telepaths to the degree Prof X's does. If he could get his hands on Magneto's helmet (someone please Photoshop Batman in Magneto's helmet, please), then he'd stomp the Prof. But he'd have to know about that weakness ahead of time.

Prof X iin Prof X's body could beat Batman with 100% of Superman's ability.

Who Would Win! Spider_Man! VS Batman! by R-man321in Spider_Man

[–]seancurry1 3 points4 points ago

This needs to be at the top.

Every time a "Batman versus [blank]" discussion comes up, everyone says Batman wins, if he has time to prepare. But if he has time to prepare, so does the opponent. And you said it best,

Spidey's genius is not on show until he needs it, unlike Batman's.

Batman has to lead with his brains, as its the only advantage he has in a fight against a super-powered opponent. Spider-Man has super-powered advantages that most of the time get him out of any given fight situation. But Spider-Man is a genius, too, and has worked with the likes of Reed Richards and Tony Stark. Plus (at least as of my last Spidey reading) he has the full support of Horizon Labs behind him, allowing him to make nearly any kind of scientific whatzit he'll need. If his powers fail him at first, he can regroup with the same intellect and resources Batman has, and pull out whatever gadget he'll need to win the next fight.

Spider-Man wins.

Got Five sentences? How about a little Five Sentence Fiction—the prompt is Sombrero. by ahblack57in writing

The two men trudged on across the desert floor, away from a life in irons and towards an unknown that was hopefully better. Hector couldn't be sure the man wasn't lying, but for the moment, he accepted that his name was Rogers. Rogers had always kept his head down and his mouth shut on the line, and he was continuing that practice now. They owed each other their freedom, and for that Hector had stuck with him since they escaped. But there was a shack approaching from the horizon with each step, along with cars, a road, and a possible new direction.

Oof, Jesus. I forgot he did stuff in the 90s. His current stuff is worlds away, though. Some of it's beautiful. jpr123 linked some great spots. I especially like his Wolverine covers.

As well as his work on Dark Tower. Beautiful and haunting.

And you stated it so eloquently, offering reasons and pieces of art to back it up, too. Reddit is downright unreasonable sometimes.

Could God even know He was God? by seancurry1in philosophy

[–]seancurry1[S] 1 point2 points ago

"could a possibly-fallible entity which believed it was omniscient ever know for certain?"

That's a much clearer way of stating what I'm asking, yes.

Can anyone give me a reason that human beings are important other than the fact that you are one? by SomeArabGuyin philosophy

And Goatse may even be more important than Hitler.

Could God even know He was God? by seancurry1in philosophy

[–]seancurry1[S] 0 points1 point ago

If you think about from the being's perspective, it becomes hard to prove. We, as humans, may be able to grasp God's omniscience better than he can.

Could God even know He was God? by seancurry1in philosophy

[–]seancurry1[S] 3 points4 points ago

But imagine it from that being's point of view. How could it know that it actually knows all things, rather than think that it knows all things? How would it know that all the things it knows are correct?

Could God even know He was God? by seancurry1in philosophy

[–]seancurry1[S] 2 points3 points ago

A an all-knowing, all-powerful, omnipresent creator of the universe. Its morality, justice, and mercifulness are irrelevant, only its degree of power sentience.

Could God even know He was God? by seancurry1in philosophy

[–]seancurry1[S] 1 point2 points ago

But how could he know he isn't being made or tricked into thinking that he a being far greater than he actually is? He'd run into a lot of the same problems humans face in existential questions.

Assholes can still be important. Hitler was the biggest asshole, but he was important.

We are Earth's only current known hope for everything that has happened so far on this planet being remembered beyond this planet's life cycle. If humanity were to disappear tomorrow or suddenly go extinct, it could be millenia until there is another species evolutionarily and mentally evolved enough to both understand and be able to maintain our records. In that time, 99% of them would almost assuredly be lost, and all proof of what has happened on Earth since we started recording it would disappear from the universe forever.

TLDR: Sentience.

Is it true that it's hard to find open mics in NYC that aren't bringer shows? by dbz253in Standup

[–]seancurry1 12 points13 points ago

Open mics aren't hard to find at all- just check out badslava.com. But open mics aren't ever bringer shows. If someone tells you there's a bringer requirement for their open mic, you end that conversation and stay as far away from that person as you professionally can, because they are trying to take advantage of you.

"Bringer shows" are usually stand up shows you can get on if you bring a certain number of friends to pay the cover charge and meet a two drink minimum. These shows are great to get your feet wet at being on stage, but they will kill your creativity after a while. Don't fall into their trap.

For a new comic who doesn't have friends in the scene yet, it's hard to find shows outside of these, yes. What I'd recommend is meeting people involved in the scene as much as you can. I started out in stand up, got burnt out by bringer shows, and started doing improv. Improv is a much newer form, especially in New York City, so bringer shows are barely existent. I got involved in the scene and have met a lot of people over the past year or two. I'm hooked on improv, but at this point, if I wanted to try stand up again, I know enough people who host their own shows that I could get a spot on a non-bringer show if I wanted to. You don't have to do improv to meet those people, but that's how I did it. The important thing is to get to know people in the scene. If you're just some guy from a blind call for talent, it's going to be hard to get those doors to open.

Cap was amazing. Chris Evans pulled off a hell of a feat, and even moreso because no one really noticed it. He had to play one character in two movies. In the first, the character had to fit in with everyone and everything going on around him. In the second, he had to be completely out of place. All while staying the same character. Not only did he pull it off, he pulled it off so well that no one noticed it.
