Running the Olympic Trials Marathon: A Day of Paradox by runwellin running

[–]runwell[S] 2 points3 points ago

I do my long runs on the weekend, but also include at least one medium-long run during the week (12-14) I usually have an easy run before the long run, but it's often 10-12 miles, or if I run long on Sunday, I might do 5 Saturday morning and 5 Saturday afternoon. I do speedwork - in the initial weeks of training, fast stuff on the track and as I get closer to the marathon, I do more marathon pace work. I don't train with a heart rate monitor, but I use the McMillan pace calculator to figure out pace for intervals. Hope that helps.

I didn't have any problems with the bib tag, but I think I was so overwhelmed by the day that I wouldn't have noticed if I had a big piece of cardboard pinned to my back.

So happy to hear that my words inspire. I wish you a great year of training and racing.

Runwell thinks she's talking about running, but she's really giving us a lesson on how to live our very best lives. This is amazing. by mauxlyin bestof

I don't know much about Reddit, but my husband suggested I post this. All the great feedback I've received certainly has been a great welcome. Thank you. And you're right - this really was about how we can live our best lives.

Sounds like you've got it figured out. Your daughter will benefit from having a mom who knows how to take good care of herself and her health.

I agree about consistency being undervalued. I've been running since I was 12 and have had some minor successes, but the missing piece was the consistency. Glad I could help motivate you to get back at it.

The only thing specific about my diet is needing a lot of calories, which I get mostly from whole foods - fruit, vegetables, grains, eggs, meat, cheese. I belong to a farm share, which inspires healthy cooking, but I really have no restrictions and I love sweets. If I get a craving for salt and vinegar potato chips after a workout, I go for it.
