The media outlets that I was listening to at the time were all saying that his wife drove off in the truck after an argument, but Henry jumped in the bed. She was going to leave him for good, again.

She stated that he threatened to jump out and kill himself if she left him. So yeah, this could have been fabricated by her in order to avoid manslaughter or what have you. However, Henry was such a head-case that I wouldn't put this dumbass maneuver past him. I read an article that discussed how tantric their relationship was throughout the years, and how Henry was hopelessly in love with her, but possesive.

EDIT: Nevertheless, it was sad and tragic, especially because he had just started turning the corner with his football career (leg injury aside). I was happy for him, but in the end, its hard for a person like that to change I guess. Similar to Metta World Peace's recent antics returning to form.

Roddy White is OK with the risks of football by rocnin nfl

[–]rocn[S] 2 points3 points ago

I'm happy to see there is a mixed stance of opinions on this.

At first I was disappointed in all the negativity. Personally, I've always looked up to Roddy as one of the most underrated WR's in the the NFL - plus he isn't a diva.

I also think this is a relevant article because: its the offseason, and one of the main focuses this offseason has been injury prevention. While Roddy may not sound educated here (not many players do on twitter) he has more of a right to speak on the matter than we do. He's simply stating the fact that he knew the consequences when he signed the contract, just as any high risk profession.

Mature beyond his years. I'm convinced that this was a selfless act with no hidden agenda for positive press.

It's such an easy thing for successful NFL players to do things like this, but I'm not sure many of them do unless its sponsored by the NFL.

I've gained even more respect for my QB.

Thanks, and good luck to you as well!

I was a 3wood teebox user a few years ago, but then the driver started working better so I used it for a couple years. I slowly started to realize that the mis-hits with the driver were very detrimental to my score, whereas the mis-hits with the 3wood were less pronounced, thus more likely to miss trouble.

Of course, there has been some give and take with using the 3wood over the driver. While my second shots are farther away from the green, I'm landing the ball into position where I can at least take a shot at the green on my 2nd shot as opposed to a knockdown shot or a drop. Since my league course is on the shorter side, but more of a "target golf" style course, I can get away with losing +/-20 yards off the tee.

The choice this year was made in an effort to play "smarter" golf, and its paid dividends thus far (although its still early haha). Sure I miss hitting the driver every now and then, but I love dropping it in the center of the fairway to 180 yds as well. Often times I'm hitting my 2nd shot with the 3wood too, even on par 4s o_O but I've learned to hit it pretty well, so its not bad.

TL;DR I switched from the driver to the 3wood exclusively. It's helped me acheive lower scores, and increased my confidence overall. I have no plans to go back to the driver anytime soon.

Thanks! Umm...basically just stayed consistent and out of trouble. Concentrated on ONE thing during the swing: either locking the head (and I mean LOCKING it),or short backswing.

Mostly trying to do both. Bringing my arm past parallel to the ground really fucks a high capper like myself up. I stay normal, or straight but short on mishits if I just shorten my backswing.

This is what I've changed this season. It's brought me down from a 22 to a 16 handicap in my league. Oh and also, haven't hit a driver from the tee all season, just 3 wood.

EDIT: the cap in my league is for 9 holes.

EDIT 2:Oh, and didn't hit ONE hazard all round (including sand) until the 18th hole. Lost a ball in the woods, but then dropped a long putt.

Ricky Williams - "I don't buy that there is a link between football and concussions." by fobbymasterin nfl

Good point, and I wasn't aware of the numerous lawsuits.

What I meant by the piece you quoted was that if the player gets a concussion on Sunday, and he wants to play the following Sunday, then he should be able to if he chooses (I should have worded it better). The mandatory rule that a player must sit out "one game" is what irk's me. Obviously, if a player gets a concussion, he should sit out as long as he sees fit.

In this day and age, even if the NFL were to have a binding contract alleviating their responsibility toward concussions, there would still be loopholes to sue them. But yeah, I agree that the NFL should not take so much responsibility of player's injuries.

[–]rocn 1 point2 points ago

I'm aware of this, but as you mention, they aren't really sure how much time off you need. I mean if you really want to prevent recurrence, then have them sit out a month or more.

If you do that, then the only time someone will be slapped with a "concussion break" will be when they are knocked out or puking, etc. I'd bet there aren't too many players want to miss that much time.

I see where he is coming from.

I have always looked at it like this: firefighters and cops know that their job could injure or kill them. NFL players know they can endure life altering injuries.

The players get paid way more than firefighters or cops. The risk that players take is the possibility of meeting an early death from concussions, among other things, but many people will take 50 fantastic years over 70 average years (moneywise).

NFL players have been getting concussed since football was born. Sure, we have more knowledge of the effects now, but big hits are a part of the game. Linemen hit someone on nearly every single play, and I'm sure many have had concussions that go undocumented/unnoticed.

TL;DR I think the NFL's stance on concussions is over-blown. I can understand having a guy sit out a bit after a documented concussion, but miss a game? Meh...
