You're confusing Republican and Conservative. The Republican party has a huge spectrum of people that believe all sorts of things. This is actually the reason that the GOP doesn't win every national election. It's impossible to please the entire party, so we nominate people that don't please anybody, cough Romney cough. If it was illegal to make empty threats in the form of a piece of paper, then joking around with friends could end up in felony charges. I'm sure you've said "I'm going to kill you." to someone. And you might have even said, "I'm going to strangle you with my bare hands." Well you do have hands and that gives you the ability to carry out this threat, but you shouldn't be arrested for it. There is a place and a time for joking around. I would not condone going out into the streets with a loaded glock and yelling threats, but this is different.

Really the political spectrum includes an up down and a left right. Totalitarianism vs. Anarchism and Conservative vs. Liberal. You can have a liberal totalitarian like Stalin or Marx. Or you can have a conservative totalitarian like Hitler. You also get people on anarchy side, but those people never really make it to the big times because they're always eliminating the offices that would make them famous. (That last part is kink of a joke.)

I'm glad to see that you distinguish taking some passages with a grain of salt and being a "convenient Christian". I also distinguish between Pastafarians and atheists. You can't prevent nuts from misusing texts for their own purposes, but I don't group my Muslim friends together with Fundie-Muslims who throw acid in the face of little girls to scare them away from going to school. I totally agree that faith can be corrosive to choice. But don't you think that whatever people believe they will wrongfully fall back on it when they don't want to make a decision for themselves? Kind of like a non-conformist going against their best judgement to avoid the popular decision. Islam is very good about teaching their follows to question everything that the Koran teaches.

I enjoy reading about Divine Command Theory vs. Natural Law. One theory says that actions are moral because God says they are moral. The other says that God tells us what is moral, but He does not artificially alter morality. The problem with Divine Command Theory is that God loses his goodness if he just arbitrarily deems what is right and wrong.

You don't have to see it as divine to take a road map away from it. Your dad probably taught you a lot of awesome stuff, but he also probably said some shit that didn't make since. You can learn to take messages that are important and ring true and ignore weird stuff like, if you see your uncle naked, you're eternally damned. There is a book called "The Atheists Bible" or something similar. It's the bible condensed and all of the hard to believe stuff is taken out. I think it's almost all quotes, not sure though. You should check that out if you can find it. If Christians and atheists (you don't capitalize that do you?) read the bible critically and formed their own opinions, there would be a lot less conflict in America. For example, I don't hate gay people and I think they've probably got the same shot at eternal life as I do. Also, I'm sure you're not an asshole to people that you want to be nice to you.

It's nice to not be called a fool and to have a civil discussion. You're pretty cool in my book.

There is a pretty big base of brawlers and stupid mode players here. You should find a way to make your play-through very unique. For example, design your character and make every decision as if you were Shaft.
