The slow death of Best Buy has begun. by mnpilotin technology

Actually, if you need a transistor or resistor on the weekends when you're usual shop is closed, radioshack still carries components. Given, I have a few other stores I prefer over radioshack, but they have shorter less consistent hours. Radioshacks are usually open 7 days a week for at least 8 hours. It's pretty nice for that.

Dad's having surgery tomorrow that he likely won't survive. Taking the news LIKE A BOSS. Love you dad. by darrinmclin pics

I prefer to not post my family for the internet to see in a private moment, and I think it's highly inappropriate.

No, it's a downvote because it's karma whoring of a dying father to strangers on the internet

It is a pathetic way to get karma. I'm interested in this thread only to try to make a push to stop this shit on reddit. Everyday I have to hear about someone's wife, brother, sister, mom, dad, cat, dog... fucking everything dying. It's morbid and boring. You only get people saying "I'm so sorry! Feel better!"

This is an old photo of my mom, my sister and I. Mom passed away today from breast cancer today at 46. by subdued_infujain pics

[–]roborage 9 points10 points ago

You don't mourn the loss of your mother on the internet with strangers. No one can possibly say anything negative or even comment about him being a karma whore because he hides behind "my mom died from cancer". You're in the wrong fucking place to post this stuff, and you get no sympathy from people on the internet. This looks like a family photo we all have of our loved ones, and we've all lost people to cancer. What makes it so special that it will be something we would want to share with our community ?

This is the main difference I see between engineers and physicists. Engineers apply physics to the human world while physicists study the universe regardless of its applications to humanity. Some things that physicists discover though become useful to the human world, but sometimes what they discover has little application to our lives. I think black holes, currently, fit into that realm. I'm not sure if she thought that deeply about it, but I can see the argument you are making and she may have been making.

I agree. I'm tired of people asking me to lift things just because I'm a man. This used to happen at work a lot. I'd like to see women carry the heavy ice bins or bus tubs more. They use the excuse of the gender far too often!

I met this beautiful British girl on chatroullete last summer. Now, she's offering me a plane ticket to England to see her. I gotta do this without my parents even knowing that I am out of the country. I have to decide by tomorrow. by bobloblaw911in AskReddit

Ugly Renaissance Babies (some of these are ridiculously hilarious). by boogabooga08in humor

[–]roborage 2 points3 points ago

Ya, I agree. Some of them are from the 1400's / 1500's so that would put them in the renaissance. I'm also not an art history major (electrical engineer ), but I did take a class in it. Like this is a pretty good example of what I would expect in the pre-renaissance. So it looks like you have a blend of the two with the babies here. I think a better title would be "Pre-renaissance babies and a few renaissance artists that painted in the pre-renaissance style" lol

Ugly Renaissance Babies (some of these are ridiculously hilarious). by boogabooga08in humor

[–]roborage 16 points17 points ago

Most of these are actually pre-renaissance. One defining feature of the renaissance was babies looking more like babies rather than just miniature humans. You can also tell by the lack of depth of the painting, and the awkward anatomy of the humans. The renaissance was filled with accurate depiction of the human form.

Scientists report first solar cell producing more electrons in photocurrent than solar photons entering cell by rawbamaticin science

[–]roborage 1 point2 points ago

Aiming for ultra violet would be a waste since only a small portion of UV hits the earth. Currently exciting electrons to twice the band gap would have to relax to an energy level right around the band gap, so exciting the electrons would prove to be useless. I'll look more into what this paper suggests, but it's the first I've heard about it. The best practical solar cells I've heard of are approaching 50% with multijunction photovoltaics and in theory could reach around ~80%.
