I see what you mean. I think the article is a little too black and white. To me, there seems to be an introvert/extrovert spectrum and a lot of variations that can take place on that spectrum. The instance of the guy at your bar I can actually identify with: wanting to be around other people, but not necessarily interact with them. I get this way a lot. I also work at Starbucks and witness this behavior all the time. There are customers (whom I recognize as fellow introverts) whom I'd love to get to know better, but they're clearly not that interested in connecting.

To me the value of the article is in the fact that this is the first time I've heard someone articulate the social exhaustion I feel all the time. As someone who is dating an extrovert, I've been looking for something like this for a while, something that can explain that it's not that I don't want to be around her all the time, it's just that I often don't want to be around anyone. The ratio of 2:1 alone time to social time is about right for me, too.

My feelings exactly! That's what I love about Minecraft: something for everyone. I for one enjoy adding mechanical elements to my world, but I still play on survival and enjoy exploring and making potions.

This blows my mind. I've got about a month to go in my three-month EMT training course. Granted, I'm only a volunteer at this point, and I'll still be riding as a third tech for a good while even once I have my certification, but still... hearing the training you've been through makes me wonder how adequate our system is here in the US.

Two summers ago a bunch of friends and I were filming a movie. The movie involved a dog, which my one friend graciously provided. The dog's name was Tucker, which happened to be the name of my other friend's older brother who hung himself a few years ago.

So we were moving from one shooting location to another with the dog, and my friend has him in the back seat with a leash attached. As soon as the door is opened Tucker (the dog) leaps out of the car, nearly strangling himself on the leash. One of my friends shouts "Careful or you'll hang Tucker." The girl whose brother (Tucker) died didn't say anything, but there was some pretty thick awkward for a while.

I briefly taught english to Austrian grade-schoolers, and one of them came up to me one day and pointed openly at a black classmate and said, "Er ist ein Nigger!" No need for translation, obviously. It was clear that neither of them knew what it meant and that they were friends. I wasn't sure whether I should play it like it was no big deal in order to decrease the appeal of saying it again or explain that it was very offensive to English speakers. I opted to explain it, but I can't be sure it did any good.
