This same process applies if you change your string gauges as well. A few tips I would add are. 1) Alternate the order in which you detune the strings instead of detuning in order(6-1). Detune strings 6-1-5-2-4-3. This helps keep the tensions between strings balanced. You could actually break your 1st if you're tuning down far enough and don't alternate. 2)Once you have your tuning and bridge balancing relatively close you can use the springs to tune your guitar. For instance, if your tuning is slightly flat and bridge is high you can just turn the springs until you get your 6th and 1st strings in tune. If you alternated your strings when you detuned the rest will be very close. 3) Inspect your action carefully. The tension on the neck is less than before. It may need adjustment as well.
