Just trying to stay prepared by jakethesnakeboobooin zombies

[–]ricksworkacc 1 point2 points ago

It's not so much the conscious recoil, as it is your muscles reacting to it. I'm speaking from my experience and the experience of many others I've spoken with. Starting with a high caliber like .40 or .45 more often than not develop a flinch.

You could get by starting with 9mm, but if you start hitting low and left you've probably developed a flinch.

For your first time shooting, not bad - but PLEASE put down the .40 and start with a .22 or you will develop a flinch and never shoot how you want.

If i swore off every fast food place that has screwed up my order I wouldn't have any fast food places to eat at. Always check your order before you're out of the parking lot - this Lethal Weapon 2 clip sums it up

It could be either one, there may even be an email address. What area are you in? Maybe you'll be lucky and one of us redditors can help you out.

Returning to the church... by jaunty_jawain lds

Hey, I was in the same boat a few years ago. I've since progressed from Teacher to Elder and received my endowments. Next month my wife and I are going to be sealed together. Most of what kromberg is saying is good advice, however instead of tracking down the executive secretary it's much easier to find the Bishop's information on lds.org and ring him up. He'll reach out to the ES and get an appointment scheduled. The LOVE when you do this, it's very rare and they will be very impressed with your determination.

As for not letting anyone else know - that's up to you. Most people in my ward know but only very few of the members treat me with kid gloves. It can be annoying at times, but as you grow in the church the knowledge gap will close quickly and you'll be able to talk doctrine with the best of them.

For now, just focus on you - reach out to the Bishop and read the scriptures every day, I'd also highly suggest picking up a copy of Jesus the Christ and Marvelous Work and a Wonder. You can find Jesus the Christ for free in PDF form.

EDIT - As for your past sins, If you were 10 when you quit coming to church then I'm assuming you were never ordained a deacon. That'll make the repentance process A LOT easier. I was a Teacher when I came back and there was no "punishment" or anything, I just had to try not to let it happen again. I was never told not to take the sacrament or that I couldn't pray in class or anything. I failed some, but that is to be expected. Shoot me a message if you want to talk to someone who's been in your situation before. I'm pretty open about it and what was going on at the time I went back.

What's an actual use case for this? by sile1in guns

[–]ricksworkacc 0 points1 point ago

Seeing as how I shoot lots of Wolf through my AR, I have had a few experiences with double feeds. The BAD quickly allows you to lock the bolt back, using your left hand to pull the charging handle, using your right index finger to push up the bolt stop, then you don't have to switch the rifle between hands to remove the magazine, then if needed charge the charging handle a few times to try to remove the case in the chamber.

Seriously, the BAD should just be put on every new AR from now on.

[–]ricksworkacc 7 points8 points ago

I have one - it is AWESOME. It makes it so you don't have to hit the ping-pong paddle on the left side after a reload from an empty mag. You can also push the BAD up and lock the bolt back easier that way.

Honestly, any AR I ever own from now on will have one.

I completely understand contacting us, lots of people did that day and we were happy to inform them that google was down (even provided a link to an AP article on it) - however, this guy just didn't get it and kept calling back.

No, all I'm asking is that we, as Ron Paul supporters, take the high road and leave religion out of this.

Dear Vigilantpal1adin,

I'm a Mormon, you might even say "blindly" (though I would call that a false accusation) - I think that what he's saying is a bunch of crap, unconstitutional, and wouldn't support it. I'm voting for Ron Paul.

I want you to look up Ezra Taft Benson, he was the president of our church for a long time. His views and those of Ron Paul's are very very similar. We have very strict standards, however we don't believe in forcing them upon non-members of our faith.

In summary, please leave my religion out of it - there are many other reasons to disagree with Mitt Romney.

I now regret leaving (formally, removed from records) and want to come back... by samofnyin lds

[–]ricksworkacc 0 points1 point ago

I think it was less of a problem and more of lack of understanding, such as the priesthood ban and why things happen...

Also, the people in my ward were not very Christ like, they gossiped a lot and were very judgmental -I didn't feel comfortable and honestly it was hard to feel the spirit during meetings...it felt like any other church. Took me a while to go to a different ward after moving a few times, where I felt the spirit, and then I'd go back to my home ward and was like "jeeze, where's the spirit?" It took a different bishop and some hard times to humble that ward.

I just brought home my zombie killer - My brand new Mossberg 500. I haven't modded it yet. by obsidian468in zombies

[–]ricksworkacc 0 points1 point ago

I have a Mossberg 500 Persuader, I like it...but not for zombie killing - shotgun rounds are big and heavy, something like an AR or an AK would be much better - rounds are lighter and it's more accurate at range. However, if you insist on only using the Mossberg, buy slugs and learn to use them. A shotgun can be about as accurate as a rifle out to 150 yards with the right sights and some good slugs.

As for your mods:

A recoil absorbing tactical stock with pistol grip and shell holders

Get the tactical stock with pistol grip, but the shell holders are WAY too close to your face, you won't like them and it may hurt

Combination light and laser sight (red laser) (front mag tube mounted)

Just get the light, a laser isn't very helpful with a shotgun (or many guns, honestly) - the light will serve as a rudimentary shotgun aim point in the dark.

6 shell saddlebag style shell carrier

Go for it, just practice with it - it's harder than you would think

Bandolier with shell carriers

No, there are better options

Heat shield for the barrel

Some people will say these are stupid, however after shooting a lot through a shotgun barrel it will get HOT and you might have to grab it to take it somewhere - so go for it.

Some things you might want to get for it:

  • Ghost Ring sights - if you want to shoot slugs this will make it a lot easier at range

  • single point sling - don't get a 3 point, they are useless, a 2 point if you WANT wouldn't be a bad idea, but for this kind of set up a single point would probably be best

  • Nothing less than 4 gauge - and honestly you probably want to stick with some buck shot. 4 gauge isn't even that good. Don't plan on shooting anything but birds with bird shot. Maybe Squirrel, if you're hungry

  • Check out some of the stuff they have here - 3 gun set ups for the shotgun are pretty awesome.

I now regret leaving (formally, removed from records) and want to come back... by samofnyin lds

[–]ricksworkacc 6 points7 points ago

I left the church and came back, however I was never removed from the records I was just "inactive" or "less active" (what they call it now).

I had a problem with some of the beliefs, however I realized that sometimes the "beliefs" that I heard were not really beliefs of the church, or they were not communicated properly. Think about the beliefs of the church you aren't in agreement with...now, pray about it. It helped me understand a lot more and my testimony increased leaps and bounds.

Kevin was our server at Medieval Times on Friday, he was awesome! by ricksworkaccin pics

[–]ricksworkacc[S] 1 point2 points ago

I took my family to Medieval times on Friday and we were sat in Kevin's section. The dude was awesome, friendly, and worked his butt off to make sure everyone was taken care of. At the end of the show I looked around and saw that no one left him a tip (that I could see) - I was pretty pissed. I couldn't afford a huge tip, but we gave him $20 bucks and I thanked him for being an amazing waiter. I thought "I"ll give him one more thank you" - reddit, this guy is kind of nerdy so if he isn't a redditor himself, I know he's got to have friends that are. Help me give this guy one more thank you from my family.
