GoogaMooga....fail by inreliefin nyc

[–]realultimatepower 4 points5 points ago

My friend got me in as his +1 with a press pass. There were no signs as to where to go when you enter the park. I walked a mile in the wrong direction before I found someone to tell me where to go. They didn't have his or my name at the press check-in; had to wait a good 20 minutes to get that cleared up. Saying the lines were offensively long is putting it mildly. On top of it all, the music was mediocre at best. I guzzled a couple of beers, got a headache and left pissed off.

U.S. soldier dies saving Afghan girl: Spc. Dennis Weichel saw an MRAP bearing down on a little girl and grabbed her out of the way. But in the process, the armored truck ran him over by maxwellhillin worldnews

Really? 100% of the blame for the last 20 years of Afghan history lies with the US? I think it's a little more complex than that....

Crisis in Syria Looks Very Different on Satellite Channels Owned by Russia and Iran by LSkyin worldnews

[–]realultimatepower 12 points13 points ago

I really can't see how any sane person could come to this conclusion. The BBC comes at the news from a British perspective and in that way it is biased. RT, on the other hand, is actively engaged in promoting the policies of Vladimir Putin and his party. They manufacture stories and distort facts with zeal; they would never dare to criticize Putin. Did you see their coverage of the massive rallies protesting last year's election? It was almost laughable the things they were coming up with.

What's happening in Syria now is far and away more dramatic, brutal, and newsworthy than what is happening in Bahrain, currently.

I've said for a long time that Russia Today was nothing more than garbage propaganda press. The people trying equate it to legitimate western media outlets are kidding themselves.
RT is to United Russia as Fox News is to the Republican Party.

No, not really. Last time I checked, Israel hasn't detained dozens of Americans on trumped up charges aimed at discrediting and disempowering pro-democracy advocates and organizations.

PIPA (and SOPA) are far from dead. Just received this from an IL Senator that basically says, "F**k off and leave it to us pros to keep negotiating away your rights" by lordB8rin politics

My point is that fighting IP infringement is like fighting the war on drugs. You can take down megaupload but who gives a shit? I can't even remember the last time I used megaupload for anything at all. I'm saying this as a pirate who is an opponent of SOPA and PIPA: It is dishonest to say that the law as it stands is, "sufficient" at dealing with IP theft. It isn't. And anyone who has used the Internet knows this.

It's sufficient by what criteria? Let's be honest, what is in place now does next to nothing to preventing access to pirated material.
