Reddit, I'm a junior in high school considering my options for college. Hoping I could get some insight. by Aquajock94in AskReddit

Oh, I don't doubt that. I just expect that the incidence of getting an all expenses paid ride to any Ivy League is rather low. Full tuition, sure, but not room and board.

I think they are just different kinds of fun. I have known several people at Navy and West Point and someone that did a cross semester at the Air Force from one of the other service academies. I definitely didn't get the impression from any of these guys that they were not having fun. You certainly do have a lot more restrictions put on your life, and you definitely should not undertake on of the service academies if you don't think it's for you, from what I understand if you drop out before finishing and fulfilling your service commitment (5 yrs I believe) you owe them a substantial sum of money per year.

Also as far as Harvard and other expensive Ivy League schools go, unless you have enough money to get help from your parents I would stay away from them. Even "full-rides" are generally not full full rides, you are still responsible for your housing and meals which can really add up. I have a friend that got a full ride to Emory (Harvard of the south) and he said that "full full-rides" generally go to people who could afford to pay anyway, they are an honor bestowed upon the children of alumni that have donated substantial sums of money or already have a building on campus sharing their last name.

You seem like a pretty with it, junior high-schooler so assuming you go to a 'regular' university and not a service academy. I would recommend thinking long and hard about what you want to do with your life before making your final decision on where to attend and choose a school that is known for that particular field. For example a Harvard programming degree is probably nothing to sneer at but the same degree from MIT or Cal Poly Tech may carry more prestige because they have well recognized Computer Science Departments. I am a business major currently and the school I am at has a very reputable Business School but if I wanted a degree in Computer Science or Astrophysics I would probably want to go some where else. Obviously schools like Harvard carry a lot of prestige in their name but if you pick the crappiest major at a great school it will still probably be a decent education, but perhaps not the optimal choice.

Hi Reddit, I need job interview help! by drunk_pigeonin AskReddit

Make sure you are knowledgeable about the company and make sure that you have some questions for them. Have several in case some of them get answered inadvertently during the interviewers speech.

Are you female, because apparently messaging high school classmates 5 - 10 years down the road for a random booty call is a thing now. Unfortunately a few people have spoiled it for those if us that just want to reconnect with old friends without some ulterior motive.

That source is somewhat out of date. Basically it's a wash between wood and plastic with both having some advantages. Wood tends to have some antimicrobial properties but plastic/acrylic are hands down easier to clean/sanitize. Wood will preserve your knife edges longer however. Plastic on the other hand is generally cheaper so you can afford to discard them more often which will help reduce the risk of the board trapping bacteria and other chemicals.

I feel like a buffoon asking this, but how are Asian restaurants able to get that specific texture in their chicken? by cc132in Cooking

[–]realgenius13 1 point2 points ago

Why?

I have used their recipes on occasion with no issue, although I generally don't use the site's UI, I arrive there through Google. I believe a lot of their content is user submitted unless I am thinking about another site, which means you should read the whole thing and choose your recipe carefully, but I found a pretty good biscuit recipe there. That being said whenever possible I use an Alton Brown recipe for anything I want to cook, but his biscuit recipe was more effort than I was willing to go to just for biscuits.

If you are looking for a particular cooking technique and know the name of a dish it's used in then just Google that with the word recipe added to the end of the string. I'm not saying this to be unhelpful either, I use this technique a lot. After a while you will get a handle on which sites produce reputable recipes and which do not. I really like the Food Network site and Allrecipes.com

Those are beautiful, I really love that you don't over frost your cupcakes. No one can eat that much frosting and I think the negative space left on the cupcake is appealing.

No I haven't, I'm not much of a raw meat fan. I would want to see a source for the wood harboring less bacteria than plastic fact. I went to chef school and we used a system of color coded plastic boards, and were told to pretty much never use wood, because it gets nicked and our hard to clean and generally not dishwasher safe. Can you put that thing through a high heat sanitation system?

As far as quality meat I was under the impression that where in the animal the meat came from generally determines it's risk of contamination. Anything coming from the belly area, near where the intestines can get nicked during processing runs the risk of being contaminated. If you ground your own sirloin then the risk is probably minimal to non-existent, but most people don't go to those lengths just for chili.

Yeah the only ones I really like going to are the ones that have my favorite authors in them, and honestly even some of those are bad because the authors either aren't great about talking about their craft or aren't great public speakers. I find the "celebrity" panels really depressing/anxiety inducing as people either stand up to ask a question and obviously get nervous in front of their favorite star and then just can't stop rambling, that makes me cringe so hard because I feel so bad for them. Also I feel bad for the celebs because it seems like a lot of them who regularly do the circuit are just so bored of being asked the same questions over and over again. Or get annoyed for being asked about some incredibly small piece of minutiae about a specific episode 5 years ago. Cringe, cringe and cringe again.

Yeah despite being a professed Ponies fan I didn't know anything about the Spiderman "feud" and didn't know there was gonna be a Ponies panel at DragonCon. I don't really go to many of the panels anyway.

Any Suggestions for my standard deck (U/G Infect)? by momentumlostin magicTCG

[–]realgenius13 0 points1 point ago

What kind of decks do people run at your lgs? I mean I generally get most of my damage across the board either in the air (Inkmoth or Spectral Flight on whatever) or unblockable (Blight Agent or Artful Dodge + whatever).

Do you see most of the main netdeck archetypes such as Mage Blade, Haunted Humans, Superfriends, RDW, some flavor of Pod, or Wolf-Run? I generally see all that plus some random stuff at my store. I've been seeing a lot of U/R Burn Aggro Lately which I will admit is not a great matchup for my deck if they flip their Delvers early.

The best evidence I can see for Wild Defiance + Infect is that if you check TCGPlayer Mono Green infect is now a deck archetype and I would say it largely on the strength of Wild Defiance. Most of the people running that are doing 4 Wild Defiance and 2 Livewire Lash.

Transformers 3, touché!

Also I have studied speech, rhetoric and philosophy longer than is good for one human being so I am probably overly cautious about making objective value statements versus statements of opinion.

I am not that kind of person at all, and no one I know that likes it seems to enjoy it ironically. I am fairly well known for my vitriolic dislike of movies that are good because they are bad or whatever. I just genuinely like the show, there are some episodes I'm not too fond of and I will admit that it occasionally goes off into left field, but on the whole the characters are pretty neat and rather well written.

Also why do people that dislike something have to say it is not good. Obviously it is a rather popular show even among older audiences so there clearly must be something drawing people to it. I can understand saying it is not to your personal taste, but saying the show objectively isn't good is a bit arrogant.
