A different outcome? (Spoilers all) by Tango_Foxtrotin asoiaf

[–]raptosaurus 0 points1 point ago

A lot of Robb's battle plans were predicated around avoiding fighting Tywin in open battle, which made sense given his current strength and is what kept giving him victories. That's why he distracted Tywin by splitting his forces, and why he snuck around the Golden Tooth. And although he was sacking the Westerlands, he was mostly hitting soft targets like the Crag because he lacked strength. But with the strength of the Vale he could easily have laid siege to Casterly Rock, sacked Lannisport and still had enough to meet and crush Tywin in open battle. He probably wouldn't even have bothered with the Crag, so he would never have met Jeyne. So I would say the Vale might have been his key to victory.

Also a lot of Stannis' bannermen went over to the Lannisters after Blackwater. So everyone gets shafted by their bannermen when the going gets tough, but nobody does it quite as underhandedly as the Boltons/Freys.

The Boltons also had their own vengeance in mind. Remember the Dreadfort has rose up against Winterfell many times in the past to try and become the principal house in the North. The Boltons always bent the knee in the end. Even though it was hundreds of years before, don't think they haven't forgotten. Remember what Tytos Blackwood told Jaime - these old enmities never die. So when the opportunity arises to not only escape destruction, but take vengeance against the Starks and become the ruler of the North, Roose takes it.

This is why I think Robb was really stupid in giving Roose such a huge command. It has been repeated time and time again that his bannermen are not his friends and not to be trusted - at the first sign of weakness they'll turn on you. This is especially true for someone as cold and calculating as Roose. Add the old grudge and you're just asking to be betrayed. Ned always kept a tight grip on Roose because he trusted the Dreadfort least of his bannermen; Robb should have done the same.

Plus they already visited the Crag, with Talisa in tow. There would have been more significance to her visiting her own home in disguise than there was.

Speaking of which, where are Maege and Galbart, and what are they up to in the Neck? That's the biggest mystery I want answered in WoW

Octopi is also correct because it has sufficiently entered common parlance. That's how English rolls, mothafucka.

Rabbits don't normally eat carrots, and in fact, eating too many carrots is toxic to them. This association was in fact started by Bugs Bunny, and hadn't existed prior.

Actually, the parallel structure of that stanza implies he also did not know Lebanon and Greece existed either.

One thing you should work on is the search function. I noticed that it interprets the use of common words like "the" very rigidly, even though the titles pulled from various game sites may not be quite so rigid. For example, searching "The Witcher" doesn't pull up any GOG results, even though GOG is made byt he same guys who made The Witcher, because it lists the game only as "Witcher". Another thing is it doesn't like the use of roman numerals, even though many games use them in titles.

Source on that last one? Because that doesn't seem likely given the respective ownerships.

New theory: You can tell basically how attractive a goalie is by the ratio of masked to bare faced pictures in a Google Image Search of their name. by retinarowin hockey

[–]raptosaurus 6 points7 points ago

For me, Holtby has more than triple the number of face images as Rask on the first page. Plus there's a picture of his mother and a random one of some Bruins, so that decreases the number of masked pictures by 2 and increases the overall ratio. Brian Boucher also has more than Rask.

Maybe your google needs calibrating for attractiveness :P

For me, Tuukka has only 3 maskless pictures on the first page, while Timmy has 5. So both pretty ugly, but Tuukka uglier.

If a law passed requiring an iq/lifeskills test in order to procreate would you vote for it? by MastodonMetalin AskReddit

[–]raptosaurus 6 points7 points ago

Depends on whether this test is designed to test for a certain amount of scientific literacy, which while I believe it to be something that it is pretty important, probably doesn't factor that much into determining the fitness of the person as a parent.
