Hey Reddit, what're your best science jokes? by rapostlein funny

It has to do with genetics and relatiability. Would you risk your life (which has 100% of your genes) to save your brother (who has 50% of your genes)? No. But you would for two brothers (each having 50%, totals 100%). I hope that explains it..?

I never said you did memorize jokes, nor would you have to. However, if you are naturally funny, you can probably tell jokes, which leads to the evo bio theory. Your status as a male is shown through actions. You subconsciously do them just as girls subconsciously read them a specific way. Yeah, you want a big apartment because you have enough money to afford it and might as well- but it symbolizes your status in society. Or, you don't have that much money and must use other strategies to mate- such as humor or boldness or whatever to try and snag a mate. It has absolutely nothing to do with coming right out and telling a girl, "Ok my social status is this because I live here and do this as a job so you can now weigh your options amongst all the males here and if mating me with me seems to be in your favor, call me." And also, in every strategy in every species, there are "cheaters" that try to emulate being one of the two, or "creative" as you might say. You have to be creativeness, lie about your profession, etc because you found that strategy to work. A male topi with small horns puts mud on them to make them appear larger- and it works. Isnt that creative? Not all topis do it, just a few. That's called a mating strategy.

Uhm. Jokes = sense of humor = nice guy = good father. Law degree/fancy apartment = rich = alpha male. You're just proving my point...?

That's evolutionary biology for ya. As women have the most to risk when mating, the brain automatically tells the girl to find a male who is either a good father (sensitive, sweet, caring) or an alpha male (lots of resources to spend, can show off his ability to provide much like a male peacock can waste extra resources building up a stupid, pointless tail). Since our genes don't know about birth control quite yet, it kind of assumes male = mate = offspring.

I don't consider her a true "geek" until I see her play. Until then, she's a decent artist (her clay model is very meh, but her zealot drawing was really nice!) who found out she can get a lot of attention from men if she focuses on "geeky" subjects :X However, I have only seen her art videos.. maybe some where she has shown her amazing sc skills and if so, then I will retract this post and happily accept her into the true gamer girl league :) Aiur only knows we need more!! (EDIT: To add, I probably am hoping she's a fake because it's not fair if she was born this cute AND had a fun gaming personality ;P jk jk! ...but seriously. Not fair.)

They constantly sue farmers who don't buy Monsanto seeds (and thus are allowed to clean their seeds) under the "we suspect them to be cleaning Monsanto seeds.." and even though it's not true, or if even one of the seeds from their Monsanto-using neighbors blows over on a gust of wind and the farmer cleans it... BAM. Sued. And they never have a chance to win even when they're innocent because Monsanto has tons and tons more money for lawyers. In Food, Inc you hear a story about a farmer, who opted to NOT use Monsanto, whose life was utterly destroyed by the company. None of his friends for 50 years want anything to do with him in fear they will get in trouble. So lets see.. they can either buy Monsanto seeds and be fucked... or they can not buy Monsanto seeds and be fucked. But you're right, they are indeed under no obligation to buy Monsanto seeds because they'll be screwed either way.

Did you know that forests in the Amazon are being clearcut to grow soy as feed for gigantic pig operations thousands of miles away in Eastern Europe? That is very true, and I can't help where exactly where my tax dollars go (like supporting ridiculous subsidies or supporting a war). However, if enough people stop supporting these bad aspects of the dairy/meat industries, and the government will either have to bail them out (to which we would see and freak out) or stop subsidizing them all together. At least in theory.

If the people are smart and want bacon, they will support their local farmers and eat free-ranged, antibiotic and hormone free pigs- and delicious, eco friendly bacon is what they'll get :)

That too. The environmental reasons and for how awful animals are treated at CAFOs and these mass-production farms. At first I was local-small farm meat only but when I started being a vegetarian I was in high school and broke. After seven years of not eating meat, even though I now have more money, I just can't go back to doing it.

Simple: Support your local pork-raising farmers. Done. I don't know how it got into the minds of people that their only options are to not eat pig or to only support corporations. Your neighbor needs your help! And I'm sure your neighbor raises pigs properly, with ample grazing/foraging time and space to roam :) My food co-op near me sells local bacon, and it is actually the same price as the big corporations and from what I have heard, tastes a lot better too!

I don't know any AZA-accredited zoo, with the exception of course being The Animal Kingdom in Disney World, that are really even making a profit. The San Diego Zoo- probably the most famous, popular, and biggest zoo in America, is having to constantly borrow money, mainly for feed ($224,000 each day to feed all their animals.) When people refuse to support zoos, they're pretty much saying "Yeah, even though I know that a tigers rate of extinction is disgustingly fast, I don't like seeing animals in cages so I'd rather them just go extinct."

I became a vegetarian not because animals are too cute and cuddly... but because I have no interest in being a part of the meat industry in America. I refuse to give the meat industry a single penny (in theory.. I'm sure the people who own the meat industry probably own other products).

Uhm- well, that's the zoos are trying to do- to stop their population from dying out :/ The female might have been in heat- so they needed to be kept separated (for numerous reasons, a few being that she was either too young to breed, or she had proven to be a bad mother before).

What this zoo did is horrible- but you should not think all zoos are like this. Zoo's are trying to help animals- that is their goal. Not to profit. I am going to school as a zoologist so I can get a job in a zoo and better the enrichment/habitats of the animals. Of course, it isn't going to be as nice as if the animal was out in their natural habitat- that's a given. However, as an example, most of the tigers that zoos get are from backyard breeders here in America. And with all their animals, they are using them to educate children (a little kid is more likely to be concerned about a tigers habitat if he has actually seen one). There are captive animal breeding programs, where we try so hard to counter the damages people are having on endangered species like tigers... I could go on :X So yes, ideally, zoo's would have unlimited money and could build beautiful, gigantic habitats for their animals. But they don't- a zoo spends most of its money just on feed. I want to be an animal keeper, and I KNOW animal keepers. They LOVE their animals and only want to see them happy.

Exactly. But that's what capitalism is... whoever makes the biggest profit, wins. How do you make the biggest profit? By stepping all over everyone. It's that "as long as I get rich, I don't care" mentality that is poisoning the world :/ I've moved to eating locally grown food now just so I can support my local farmers.
