To me, it's a cautionary tale in giving your government too much power.

Yeah, other citizens might kill in ones or twos or even tens. But if your government takes a disliking to your ethnic/religious/whatever group, they'll kill you and everybody who even somewhat looks or thinks like you and then expect everybody to call it a great act of patriotism.

Again, I need to do some reading, but I can't find any other reference to this:

Armenians joined with the Russian forces, and grouped into guerrilla bands. They began attacking the Turkish Army in the rear, and even before the Russo-Armenian forces arrived, they succeeded in capturing Van, massacred its entire Muslim population, and razed the entire city.

I assume they're referring to the Siege of Van. Either the truth is pretty well-hidden in popular sources about the Siege, or this is an exaggeration, which makes me leery of trusting the author's other statements without citations.

Regardless of the Presidents stance, he needs Congress to pass the bill to him in the first place.

But he can appoint Supreme Court justices, which is what I'm concerned about. Of course, he needs the Senate to confirm the appointment, too, but it's still cause for a bit of concern considering how slim the margins are.

From the Turkish perspective, Armenians were attacking peaceful Turkish people and committing mass murders, so actually the Turks fought back. There are many photos of Turkish kids and women supposedly killed by Armenians.

Can I get a link? I haven't seen any mention of that on the part of the Armenians.

I don't know which one is true(does anybody knows?), just telling you what is the general Turkish perspective of the events.

I get that, but I also know that the scholarly/historian consensus is that it was indeed a systematic genocide. I need to do some more reading, obviously, but that's the way it looks to me as well.

I'm just getting started in studying the Genocide in a detailed way, but just from cursory examination it certainly looks like genocide -- there were quite a number of massacres of the Armenians before deportation was attempted. Sure, the Armenians occasionally fought back, but that doesn't make it not genocide to kill hundreds of thousands of members of an ethnic group because they're part of that ethnic group.

Fun fact: the word "genocide" was coined in 1943 to describe the events of the Armenian Genocide.

Any idea why not? That's the only way to get the ball rolling for a large number of resources (missing persons databases, hospital John/Jane Doe searches, conventional search and rescue).

If I have a pack with a waist strap or support, I wear it in an REI fanny pack that I've shoehorned a holster into. It slides right onto the pack's strap.

If the pack is light enough that it doesn't require a waist strap, I might wear it in an inside the waistband holster like this one.

If you are surrounded by a bunch of punks alone and feel threatened, you either try to distance yourself or know how to fight.

By that point it may already be too late -- that's where situational awareness and avoidance come in. Unfortunately, those are hard to come by if you're as drunk as Mountain Dew appeared to be.

Also, fighting a group engaged in a Group Monkey Dance is an emphatically bad idea unless you have no choice or have to fight to get away.
