I used to know a lady who cycled with a hammer in her bike basket to use as a 'horn' against the side of inconsiderate cars that almost killed her.

Your idea is probably better

It doesn't seem to save much space on the highstreet, quite the opposite in fact. Still pretty neat tourist attraction and theft deterrent (because it's so impractical).

I didn't even spot that! aces

I have never used marijuana. As a result, all I know is based on the seemingly constant praise and justification it receives on the internet. Reddit, what are your worst experiences with the drug and why is it illegal? by MagikalGiantin AskReddit

[–]pickyourteethup 0 points1 point ago

This is hoing to get buried but what the hell someone might read it.

I was once so stoned I thought I could eat my own head. Seriously I thought if i opened my mouth wide enough my head would turn inside out.

Everyone kept asking me what I was doing but I was like. "You'll see, just wait, this Is going to be awesome."

I also once spent a whole bus journey convinced I was on fire and everyone around me was too polite to mention It. Man I was angry at those passengers.

I don't smoke anymore. Over indulged, ruined it for myself.

It brought me to Manchester from London (boo, hiss, etc etc) and I haven't regretted a second of it. Quite a lovely city you chaps have been hiding up here. Naughty.

Edit: Sick of justifying myself.

Made my peace with my old job years ago. I was evil and most of the time I loved it.

Except some days when it would make me feel physically sick (talking to parents whose children had died that morning for example), hence it being my old job and not my current one.

blushes Thank you sir.

I still am a journalist.

I just don't work in tabloid any more because it didn't pay enough.

It's a grey area, or at least grey enough that people aren't prepared to go to court over it for a tenner.

Besides 75% of reddit is recycled content from elsewhere, copyright means almost nothing online (partially because of image sharing sites like reddit) it's the wild-wildwest of journalism.

And lets not get high and mighty about this. Seriously, did you pay for all those MP3s, DVDs and that expensive software? Welcome to the internet, where it works both ways.

Former UK tabloid journalist here, hello.

You need to look up London Media and approach them. They are a picture agency who 'stole' your image and sold it to the Daily Mail. (I used to do this for a living, that's why I originally got a reddit account).

Two years ago when I used to do this the Daily Mail online pay £60 for the top image, £40 for the second and £20 for each thereafter. As the person who took this image you're normally entitled to half of this fee (so £10) and the picture agency would take the other half for distributing the image on your behalf.

At the end of the day you posted the image to reddit which is public domain. The picture agency, London Media, then took this image and sold it to the Daily Mail. They should have contacted you to ask permission and agree the 50/50 fee (I always used to do this).

But you're probably boned. They could just ignore you and hope you get bored (normally works a treat) or eventually they might swing you a tenner to shut you up. If they offer you any more than that they're very bad at their jobs.

Sincerely, Reformed evil-journalist.

ps. stealing images from reddit was literally one of the least dishonest things I used to do for money as a journalist.

pps. no I will not do an AMA, everyone just gets angry at me and makes me hate them whenever I do that.

Edit: ppps. everyone telling you stupid amounts of money and to lawyer up etc is giving you false hope. Fees in newspapers can run into the hundreds in the front pages and if used very large. Fees online are tiny in comparison. Look at how many images are on the Daily Mail site, as if they pay hundreds for every single one. Also if you approach the Daily Mail they will bounce you straight to the picture agency who sold them the images. This industry is very good at stitching people like you over. Man, I'm almost starting to miss it talking about it so much.

Edit 2: as many people have pointed out posting things to reddit doesn't make them public domain. Apologies, as I say it's been a while since I worked for a picture agency.Putting images on reddit does make them silly easy to take though and many agencies just sell them anyway to see if you notice then ignore you if you do notice.

I was one of the last on the waiting list, back in November 2009. Totally worth the wait.

Thanks very much. I literally couldn't be happier. It's only one day old but it feels like part of my arm already.

Will post updates as and when.

Explanation: It's two Galapagos finches, which Darwin collected when he visited the islands as a young man. Wiki The variations in the birds beaks and diets are thought to be part of what started Darwin thinking about survival of the fittest and evolution.

This is just the start, there are fourteen variations of finch in total and I'm going to keep adding two more finches every four to six months until I have a full sleeve.

It was an amazing experience to be tattooed by Valerie Vargas, check out her work if you don't already know it. I waited two and a half years on a waiting list but it was totally worth it.

Ps. the tattoo is actually black and grey but looks red because this was two minutes after we finished.
