Don't volunteer for marshalling if you don't know how to marshall. Registration requires the least attention out of the provided options, with range help a close second. Stay away from scoring. Scoring can be super quick and easy, or hell depending on the format.

Putter taking the blunt of your weight when retrieving the ball from the cup... by Th3R00ST3Rin golf

I competed professionally for five years.

It's a golf green, not a glass slipper. Read the other replies, we're all saying the same thing. Unless a heavy player stands on a soft green for an extended period of time, the tiny depression caused by a footprint or putter will rebound almost immediately. Watch for it next time you're out.

I understand that it was an honest question, and I gave an honest answer. My original reply was not intended to be snarky, just direct. The second was overtly condescending, and for that I apologise. Cool?

I've made one. It was on the first hole of a quick nine with the associate pro (I was an assistant at the time). My approach was tracking, and then it disappeared. When we got up to the green my playing partner - who was on in two - asked me where I was. I then very casually strolled up and snagged my ball out of the cup and tended the flag for him. The best part? I doubled the par 3 second!

I'm not disagreeing with you. BUT, as a cyclist who currently holds an account with all three shops, my favorite is Ascent, with Alpenland a solid second. I'll confess that Alpenland is not the most friendly place at first, but they carry awesome product, and go out of their way to make sure that you're taken care of. These are just my impressions as a paying customer. I can imagine that if I went in asking for swag for my (insert) club, I would get much different treatment. I've actually spoken to a couple local business owners about this, and they say it's quite frustrating at times. Occasionally everyone gets a bit snappy I suppose.

I'm guessing you don't play much. The line of play etiquette is as old as the game itself, and is maintained on tour because many of the players use cleats which are much harder on the greens, and any damage caused by these cleats cannot be repaired without penalty. You see, it is a matter of 'scuffing' the green. Hundreds of players walk the greens every day, the prints they leave on the green will affect your putting in no significant way; even if it happens to be a member of your foursome. In much the same way, when a player balances themselves with a putter while retrieving their ball, they leave no significant mark on the green. And so to answer your question, no. Same goes for your edit. I'd recommend giving the rules of golf a read, or, you know, playing golf.

What are the possible negative affects of using a shaft that is too flexible? by StressTestin golf

[–]ordinaryradical 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Tell tale sign of a too-soft shaft is a -consistent- ballooning draw (this goes for both left- and right-handed players). Club head speeds are only one variable when determining shaft flex, especially because the designated L, A, R, S, and X, mean little to nothing. Instead, compare things like length, torque, kickpoint, and weight when comparing shafts. Also consider what you want out of your shaft; higher launch angles associated with softer shafts usually result in more distance for the average guy, while a tighter setup will give you more control.

What sort of speed range do you get with that ratio? I'm putting together a SS and I'm not sure if I should use the 40T chainring I have and buy a 16T cog, or if I should step it up to a 42/14.

I'm glad you had such a positive experience. For future reference, I highly recommend the guys at Ascent Cycle. They're really helpful, without being patronizing; and, when it comes to basic stuff like inner tubes, they're no more expensive than canadian tire. Also, r/bicycling is an awesome subreddit. The guys over their can answer any question you can dream up!
