I know you said you would like to stay away from apartment complexes but there are several upscale ones, The Reserve, Raquet Club, Park Plaza, all come to mind. Have great facilities, nice spaces, etc. Chevy Chase obviously is a great area to live if you can find a house. Personally, I think the "Hill-n-dale"/Southland area close to Lexington Catholic, Mary Queen, etc. is very quiet place to live with good neighbors and nice houses as well.

It is scary how much your story is similar to mine. They completely stole our deposit on a 4 person house. House was spotless, we cleaned it for probably 12 hours after our stuff was moved out. Even though we cleaned it, cleaners showed up to our house BEFORE our lease was up (they saw that we had moving vans earlier in the week so thought we moved out early). Cleaners fucked up several of the minor things that we had not moved out yet. One month later, Robert claims that our house was infested with fleas and it was our fault. We never had fleas and the cleaners that came in DURING the end of our lease never saw fleas. Total scam, there goes roughly $1300 deposit.

I lived right off the corner of MLK and 4th street, very close to transy. Very interesting area where section 8 housing and multi-million dollar victorians( like @ Fayette Place) are litterally within a stone's throw from each other.

DO NOT RENT FROM WILDCAT REALTY. I could go on for hours about how royally they suck but let me just summarize most of my displeasure with the fact that they totally stole our deposit after move out and made up false justifications for it after the fact.
