TROPHY CASE

abovetheinfluence vs trees by AlwaysExcitedin trees

[–]nooka 1 point2 points ago

Relevant idea! A few years ago, my friends and I were talking about making sweatshirts or tees that have that "above the influence" arrow facing downward and underneath it, we'd write "The Influence."

... It looks a lot cooler than it sounds. [5]

Hey, OP... Here's a subreddit specifically for posts like this! Hopefully you'll be able to get some help over there. :) Also try checking out the frugal page-- it's certainly been useful for me.

Also, I'm not sure what state you live in, but a friend of mine recommended that I check out this thing called HumanaDental. Apparently they offer vision and dental insurance for ~$20 a month.

Reddit, you know what one meal you cook all the time because it's so easy and delicious? Tell us what it is. by Exinin AskReddit

[–]nooka 0 points1 point ago

Try this one!

First cut up and fry the onions and peppers (sometimes mushrooms) to soften them. I usually add the spices while the vegetables are cooking, but it'll turn out delicious regardless of when you add them. The combination of spices my fiance and I use to make it just right? To taste, we add: cumin, hot madras curry powder, cayenne pepper, adobo, fresh cracked black pepper, and, of course, garlic (freshly minced OR powdered!). When all of that's all nice and done, then we add some yummy cheese-- preferably pepper jack-- and our favorite hot sauce.

I usually make all this deliciousness into an omelet, but scrambled eggs will be just as yummy. :)

EDIT: Another option is to add some salsa or guac cream with it!

I've got more yarn than I know what to do with! I still love knitting, but I've got plenty of skeins to spare-- PM me your info and I'll get a box together to mail you some colors!

My BF and I are doing a $20 limit for Christmas presents this year, help me out r/Frugal! by racattackin Frugal

I've only been knitting for about two years and I busted out a beautiful hat in only 6 hours-- two and a half of which were spent trying to untangle and fight with the skein of yarn. I'm surprised my hands didn't burst into flames. o_o

Bah, my one time to shine and I'm too young! I'm actually part of the Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies program at my university, so I got all excited that you were doing gender role research. Keep up the good work! Hope your research goes well. :)

I find them all the time for some reason! I found so many that I started giving them as random gifts to people when they look like they're having a bad day. Here's four of them that I have on me right now, one of which I just found in my wallet that I forgot to laminate. (I like the brownish one the best-- some air got into it and it decayed or something, but it's stayed that beautiful translucent gold color for about two months so far!)

Two robberies around campus. Be safe out there. by DahBizombin jhu

[–]nooka 1 point2 points ago

Another robbery happened last week, by the way. A friend of mine (senior at JHU) got robbed on Wednesday on the 2700 block of Calvert. There's been a serial-robber around those parts that the cops haven't been able to catch. He's been breaking in on the second floors of townhouses and moving down block by block. Watch out you guys.

How was having a wedding on the playa? My fiance and I were considering having two ceremonies-- one traditional for family and one at BM. :)

10 Ways to Reuse Your Morning Coffee Grounds by lizarbin Frugal

[–]nooka 0 points1 point ago

I absolutely approve of the tip about using the grounds to exfoliate skin. I have a job cleaning houses and nothing makes my hands feel better than washing my hands with some wet coffee grounds. Something else that works equally well is sugar mixed with a tiny bit of soap. Rub the mixture into your hands while they're still dry so you get some good exfoliation going on, then wash 'em off and your hands will be so soft, it's ridiculous. To top it off, try applying some lotion afterward. :)

:) Thanks! The thing in particular that I'm having trouble trying to fix is the brightness of the faces. I pretty much got to the same point while using Picasa. I don't know how to like, give the faces (my face in particular) more of a fleshy color without sacrificing the color quality of all the rest of the picture. Is there a way to edit something like that? (Knowledge of photoshop = 0)

It's weird-- I wore the same brand of flip flops pretty much all day every day for my first three years here, and it's only this year that I'm slipping all over the place. Definitely not looking forward to the winter. It's supposedly going to be another snowpocalypse.

5 tips to save money on books for college by shoppingdealsin Frugal

[–]nooka 3 points4 points ago*

College senior here-- My best tip is to RENT the textbooks. I just found campusbookrentals.com last semester and it's saved me almost $1000 with just two semesters worth of books. Last semester I was required to get a ~$300 book and I ended up renting it for about $20. Best part about doing that is that they're more or less insured: you can write all over them, highlight them, even roll them around in the mud and set them on fire, and you're still fine. It's certainly a better deal than buying the books yourself most of the time (sometimes for cheaper books renting them costs just about the same as buying them, though). I just think it's a better alternative than buying the $300+ book and only getting $15 back from the school/amazon when you're done with it.

tl;dr -- Try renting your books instead.
