In an effort to serve the public, let me offer this handy translation of some of the current rightist talking points into a more understandable common English. These points are often heard on talk radio and Faux “News” by novenatorin news

I've always thought it's more about the meaning of "faux" that they're going for when they use that term, but I could be wrong.

Faux:

Pronounced: fo (like go) Faux is a French word used to describe something made to resemble something else. The original French word means false, fake, imitation or artificial. Faux marble looks like marble. Faux bois looks like wood. Faux porphyry looks like stone.

Didn't see your original post, but reddit has an amazing bunch of people, as proven by the outcome. That article is great! Don't mind admitting that it kinda' choked me up reading it.

The people who made calls and gave advice are a large part of why reddit is wonderfully unique and why we all keep coming back.

Wishing you and your family the very best, zasder. Please give Sagan a big group hug from all his unmet friends here at reddit.

Takes a lot of energy to do what your mom is doing. I agree with Zipwang5555's assessment that your mom rocks.

Please know that there are plenty of us out here who are paying attention to what has happened to your community. Any thinking individual, anywhere, is deeply troubled by this horrific event.

I'm halfway across the US from AZ. It was with indescribable sadness that I sat glued to the computer reading updated news items of this tragedy yesterday. That sadness remains, only it has settled a bit deeper into my whole being.

The only thing comparable in my old guy memory is the day JFK was shot, and MLK, and RFK...it's not only the worst day in Tuscon, it's one of the worst days in US history.

You and your community are in my thoughts.

How long has it been since you attended church regularly? The message, at least in my area, has changed dramatically - particularly in the last ten years.

The church I attended hasn't heard a lesson like the ones which you described learning (helping others, loving others) for years. A couple of years ago, I quoted some of the things Jesus said in a political discussion with a friend from the church I had attended and they didn't even recognize what I quoted as Jesus' words! Sad, sad, sad.

I quit attending services when the pastor started feeling compelled to tell the congregation what to think and how to vote politically several years ago. The extremely conservative political agenda he "preached" was completely opposite of what Jesus taught, as best I could understand of what he was saying from the pulpit and what I knew from independently studying the bible.

In the south, at least the part of the south with which I am familiar, one's social network is largely dependent on church activities/friends and one is looked down upon if one doesn't have a church affiliation and attend regularly. It affects one's business opportunities, social activities, friendships, etc. When I quit attending, many things changed in my life, none of it having to do with anything I was doing, but rather what I was not doing, which was attending the church.

By the way, it was a Southern Baptist church, so I am aware that not all churches are like this. I hope not anyway.

tl;dr: Please don't base your religious opinions on what religion used to teach. It is no longer that way, at least where I am.

Please don't take any of the negative comments to heart.

As others have told you, it'll be okay.
