[Not for hire] Volunteering for some web development by htpasswdin forhire

[–]nom-de-reddit -1 points0 points ago

You're calling people leechers because they post requests on the free design sub-reddit?

So what do you call people that post free work offers on the for hire sub-reddit and prevent others from earning money?

In the future, please post these offers in /r/freedesign.

People here like getting paid. :-)

I'm tired of my shitty soldering iron that can barely handle the wiring in my guitar, would something like this be a decent alternative? by Paumanokin electronics

[–]nom-de-reddit 1 point2 points ago

It's a better iron than the current WE51.

The older, made in USA WES51 are great irons, though.

That is why he corrected you.

I'm fairly certain that his intent was to demonstrate superiority.

Much like yours.

AFAICT, neither of you even attempted to offer OP a helpful suggestion on recording his guitar. Neither did either of you bother to engage me in a dialog asking what my reasons were for my suggestions.

Instead, both of you whipped out your epeens and started your little circlejerk.

Are you suggesting eating friskies cat food?

Well, not if that brand isn't on sale. You may have to Fancy Feast or Purina or maybe even store brand.

with a guitar-usb cable you obviously would't be able to hear what the amp (or even the guitar) sounds like.

He wouldn't be able to record the Vox AC15 without a mic, but he would be able to record and hear his guitar directly. I don't have that cable, I have an IK StealthPlug, and I have no problems recording and hearing my guitar with it in a manner similar to what I described.

You should really be recommending a Shure SM57 and an Alesis IO2. $150 for professional sounding guitar recording.

Why didn't you recommend that instead of trying to correct me?

You can get a guitar-usb cable for about $30, maybe less if you look for other makes / models.

Reaper is $60, but you can trial it for an extended period until you can afford it.

You may also need ASIO4ALL to get it working acceptably.

That's enough to record clean audio, but you can get free versions of Amplitube and Guitar Rig.

The above should allow you to record clean / fx audio, as well as play the amp models as standalone on any reasonably modern pc.

There are other options for getting started with recording, but providing you have the PC, the guitar-usb cable is the only thing you really need to buy up front.

The chisel edge is cheaper / easier to manufacture, and easier to maintain in the field, especially for minimally trained troops.

I'm pretty poor, so that's a big score for my bug out bag if they're good.

Just make your own MREs!

1) buy a bunch of pop-top Friskies Buffet on sale at the supermarket...

2) buy a box of hot cocoa on sale at the supermarket...

3) buy a box of freezer bags on sale at the supermarket...

4) combine the above

:-)

Seriously, just buy some stuff on sale at the supermarket. If you can't afford even that, start hitting up the local food pantries.

Did they ask you to come up with a "plan"?

I'll probably get down voted for saying this, but you'd be much better off actually bringing in a company to deal with this.

Is ableton worth it? by TheNoodlyMessiahin edmproduction

[–]nom-de-reddit 2 points3 points ago

First, let me say that Live / Live Suite is on my list of things I'd like to have.

Live Lite 8 is worth the price, because for a short while longer, you can get it for free. It has it's limits, but is an awesome tool for the current promo. It also gets you a bit of a discount on upgrade pricing.

IMO, Live Intro isn't a very good deal. If you compare the specs to Live Lite, you'll see a large increase in the number of tracks, but very small increases in the number of effects/instruments/VSTs allowed, only +2 scenes and no increase in the number of I/O allowed. These limits largely negate the benefit of having more tracks, since you can't do anything with them past the fx limits. Ableton really should increase these limits to 2 - 3 times that of Lite, which is still well below "unlimited".

Live Standard removes the limits of Live Intro, and adds the ability to crate your own instrument and Effects racks. So it's probably the best "target" for a minimum version for long-term ROI. However, it does lack the instruments found in Suite.

Live Suite is (forgive the pun) Live's sweet spot. IMO, the instruments are great, and are part of what makes Live really shine as a music / sound design tools. But... it's expensive. Really expensive. I'm not saying that it isn't worth the price, but that price is a barrier to entry.

Now, this brings us to your question of whether you should buy Live or Logic Pro 9...

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING?!?! BUY THE SHIT OUT OF LOGIC PRO 9 WHILE YOU CAN GET IT FOR ONLY $199!!!

I'm looking for a new laptop that is capable of producing music. Someone recommended me a Toshiba, but I would like your opinion as well by AnotherRawAddictin WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]nom-de-reddit 0 points1 point ago

Apple hardware is really overpriced for what you get. Personally, if I could find a good deal on a Macbook Pro, I would pay a bit more just to get Logic Pro 9 for $199.

As for your Dell Studio 1700... all Dell computers have a service tag number somewhere on the chassis, as well as stored in the BIOS. Contact Dell support, request replacement CDs, and just re-install Windows. Then download the latest drivers form Dell, and use it as much as it allows.

A bit of an ethics question for you guys... by palijerin WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]nom-de-reddit 1 point2 points ago

You know, just talk to the guy... maybe he was just a jerk, or maybe he was dealing with something. Don't let an amp make the situation between you 2 worse.

And I apologize if I came across harshly.

I use Audiotool.com, because its free and I can access it at a library due to my lack of a computer and internet

You can run Reaper and Renoise from a USB stick.
