What equipment do I need to record Guitar, Bass, Drums and vocals? by Jabba117in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]neverwhere616 1 point2 points ago

People can recommend a wide variety of gear for you to buy, you can spend $100,000 easily on a small collection of great equipment. If you don't know how to use that gear, you may as well use a tape recorder.

tl;dr: Reasons the record industry (or Sharon Osbourne) is a viral fucking cesspool that rapes the souls of all musicians that pass through it.

Are games hitting a visual quality ceiling? by thinkpadiusin truegaming

[–]neverwhere616 1 point2 points ago

My thoughts on this, and I have no background in programming or game design so it's purely speculation:

I think part of the explanation for this is development time and efficiency. While technology continues to improve year after year, a game along the lines of Skyrim is going to sit in development for multiple years before release. That would prevent it from taking full advantage of technological advancements during the middle and end of its development. On the other hand, in the case of the COD franchise, it seems like those games get released at a pretty steady rate. I would wager there's a lot of recycling and modifying of the previous technology to push it a little farther than it went before (think games initially released on any given console vs. games released several years later for the same console).

Basically, I think it just comes down to how much time and money the developer has to work on a game. There's probably some corporate politics that come into play with this as well. Companies like EA, Blizzard, etc. are more likely to have the resources to push the envelope. Corporations of that size, unfortunately, are going to be more concerned with keeping the bottom line of a project in the black than breaking any boundaries in visual content.

My good friend passed away last week, and this solo project was the last thing he worked on. It needs to be shared with those who didn't know him. Enjoy! by Madame_Snatchin Metal

The video was great, I went and listened to the whole album at the bandcamp link -- really good stuff. Really sucks to find out about it under these circumstances.

Remember the day when you saw this for the first time? by normalizein geek

[–]neverwhere616 0 points1 point ago

God damn, that takes me back. I got it the Christmas it came out and played the shit out of Tetris and I think... Mario Bros? Screen on that Gameboy eventually died because I took it with me to school and played it outside in the middle of winter during recess. I had a case for it that was a giant Gameboy that fit the device and a bunch of games -- it was rad and in retrospect very "Yo dawg...".

Well... Yeah, it does, I was trying to phrase it so I didn't sound like a jerk. ;)

Not that it really matters, but those are ISA slots, not PCI-X slots.

Can't stop listening to the Process tonight. Skinny Puppy's "Blue Serge"--*so* good. by [deleted]in industrialmusic

The Process was the first Skinny Puppy album I bought way back when. It's still one of the most brilliant industrial albums.

I will definitely give you that. My wife was in game and running around while my PC had to wait another 2 hours to patch. I was a sad hobbit.

Alright, so I've been through Shadows of Angmar launch, Moria launch, Mirkwood launch and F2P launch... The bottle neck on the login/patch server for one day is really not that bad. Once I got in, no lag, was able to quest and everything was stable. My client crashed a few times due to Buffbars (not going to blame the client for that) and even logging back in after that only took maybe a couple minutes between 9-10PM EST and was immediate after 11PM.

The thing to keep in mind is if we all could have just logged right in, we'd still end up stuck at server queues (unless you play on something like Windfola where it's dead).

I don't listen to every episode for sure, I just check and when I see someone I like, I'll pull that up -- 3.5 hours of Kevin Smith and Joe Rogan shooting the shit was pretty awesome. It does seem like he's getting better and better guests though, so definitely worth keeping an eye on.

Blargh, sorry for that. I should've linked as it is an amazing podcast - make sure to dig back through the archives on WTF and find stuff like Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, Carlos Mencia, Judd Apatow, Louis CK, etc. I think he made a lot of those older ones pay to download (like $0.99, well worth it IMO). Also, if you aren't listening to The Joe Rogan Experience, it's worth checking out. It can be hit or miss since he let's it run for 2+ hours, but there's some real gems in there (Anthony Bourdain, Kevin Smith, Charlie Murphy).

I'd be curious too, I just went for the generic token good person example in my response, but now there's two people getting angry about Mother Theresa. I am intrigued.

I think it's the look that completely insane people who are devoid of emotion, empathy or any form of compassion for other people have, not necessarily Christians. I'd be willing to bet Mother Theresa did not share this look...

Edit: Shirley Phelps also seems to have the same lifelessness in her eyes... As well as my alcoholic mother and my 7th grade teacher. shudder

Don't want to vaccinate your kids? Fine, keep them out of public schools so they don't catch and spread around something that could have easily been prevented.

The point was still valid even with the poor grammar.

Phil's vocals are a bit raw, but god damnit if he still doesn't have more stage presence in his little finger than half the frontmen in metal.

I am not stoked as this is when LOTRO's next expansion comes out. Too much to play and not enough time. :(
