TROPHY CASE

New work. 22" x 28" Acrylic on Canvas. Xposted in r/arstore by nervromin ArtCrit

Holy shit, thank you... I honestly don't even know what to say. That's such a compliment. And thanks for sharing the nostalgia part. I've never heard that one before! Re: Etsy, I've been so busy...and broke lately i haven't been able to keep it up, but I'm planning on throwing some more prints over there very soon.

Thanks again for being so kind with your words. I think i needed to read that today!

That's such a fantastic crit, thanks for being so honest. I really appreciate the feedback and I'm inclined to agree. I think I could have boosted the detail a little more; it was such a gradual process and I think I was a bit nervous of taking it too far. I really struggle with pieces that take a long time to come together; usually I'll finish a piece within a few sessions, and i think i find it easier that way because i dont ever get the chance to "form a relationship" with the progress because I'm too busy painting it...If that makes sense. Anyway, this one was definitely not one of those pieces.

Thanks again, really.

Thank you. This piece has been a long time coming. Many paint-overs in the process, but I always embrace the built-up texture that comes with it. I really strive to make paintings that urge you to touch them.

Edit: ha! Poopshoes.

Thanks! I think I enjoyed that light green/blue too much to change it too much, but I really appreciate the feedback.

So, so lovely. A beautiful mix of realism & abstraction.

Struggled with this FOREVER. Finally finished. Totally different than anything I've done. "The World's Largest Parade", 40" x 60" - Acrylic on Canvas. by nervromin ArtCrit

Wow, thank you! Ha, and yeah. Sadly Stirling doesn't have much else to offer, either. Though the library/gallery is full of really lovely people! Out of curiosity, where are you located?

Apologies, I just got this now. You're concerned with my titles? Because they are indifferent? I guess I just don't like to sway people one way or another with the titles of my work. Perhaps i should stick to numbering them, or keeping things consistent in another generic way, but I'm just a big fan of words and sentences and how things sound together. I am bored by titles that are supposed to be represented of the artwork, because i find it influences me too much to "look for something" in the piece. I also find that can change things completely if you completely fail in representing what it is you're going for.

As well, I guess I paint because...I have to? it's become the forefront of my life over the last year or two, mainly because I acquired a painting studio. But it's always been who I am. I just do it. I rarely think about what I'm painting, I just sort of stick to whatever colours speak to me on that given day, and let each stroke depict the next. I just try my best to reach some type of flow, and usually whatever comes out I'm happy with. Mind you, many times I can't achieve a flow, and I struggle with the same pieces over and over again. As far as methods go, thats where I'm at. Some of my pieces take me a few hours, others take me months.

Thanks for the comment about this is not a cityscape! It's not a magritte reference, no. At least not consciously. I was just being a jerk, because it totally looks like a cityscape, and I realize that. It just wasn't my intention at the time, and I was just having fun with it.

I have a fear of contrasting colors, most specifically on a computer screen or a TV. Does anyone here know about this fear or other fears that no one else has? by Leninatorsin AskReddit

My friend can't stand certain "lines". She's used an example like, a spray bottle, how the liquid squirts outward in thin, slightly diagonal lines. Also, we work together, and every once in awhile, I'll send her a picture of a baby parrot just to hear her yell FUCK from across the room.

I hate being around balloons. I think its the anticipation of the pop. Seeing them float around slowly and quietly and watching them land makes me incredibly uncomfortable. Probably why my aforementioned work friend covered my desk in balloons on my birthday. I deserved it.

What's your favorite tv-series that only got 1 season? by mmclennanin AskReddit

[–]nervrom 0 points1 point ago

My So Called Life & Freaks and Geeks are my picks.

Does anyone remember that show "Get Real"? i think it was on in the early 2000's and it had Anne Hathaway in it. I remember really liking it, but I think I was probably 14 when I watched it. Anytime I mention it to someone no one has a clue what I'm talking about.
