Oh I'm not offended at all. I admit the realness of something, though loaded and hard to define, pulls at us. I think living in such a pixelized age makes the juxtaposition of an art that you can touch and smell and see the evidence of literal finger prints a more satisfying experience for the artist and viewer.

Haha yeah it's not me but she is really lovely to look at. I don't think I'm a good candidate to make a tutorial for this kind of thing... I don't really know half of the functions of photoshop actually. Pretty new to digital painting. I have a intuis 4 tablet from wacom I've been using. Ive collected some photography to practice from and use as references but I also draw from my mind a lot. So far what I've been doing is using about 60% hardness, 90% opacity and 30-60 flow on the basic airbrush to create all these. I use a really quick guide system to get the major areas to line up: putting a box around the photographs head, eye, nose, mouth, then a few lines for where he hand and shoulder ends and then put the same guides on my canvas. I then just try to use a combination of eye dropping areas and trying to see where these colors are throughout the photograph as to not become too depend on the dropper to understand how to create various lighting and textures.
I should probably watch some tutorials myself to learn quicker techniques and how to use custom brushes but so far the default airbrush just feels the most natural. I'm glad I've able to move through these relatively quickly. I'm a pretty obsessive person and spending 15+ hours on a piece, even digital like this, is more common but using these settings seems to be allowing me to move much quicker lately. I've got a much more traditional painting / drawing / sculpting kind of background and only recently decided to make the leap into digital but so far I really love it. I really want to get these printed on some kind of glossy canvas, maybe sell a few. Sorry this is rambley, I'm up way past my bedtime.
Here's a few more things I've been working on that I ended up spending a much larger amount of time on.

2.
Maybe I'll put some more time into this one and finish it in a similar way.

You know, I really agree with you to a degree because part of me really yearns to create something like this with oils but between my current social / financial schedule and my extreme disdain for having pigmented substances on my hands and clothing, I find that this digital stuff really suits me better. It's a lot of the same problem solving and requires many of the same skill sets and observations, it's just much more convenient for me. I'd love to dive into oils just to be able to create something a little more tangible labor-evident creation and physical but I'm still living paycheck to paycheck and need these little 3-4 hour 'I just accomplished something creative' kind of feelings. With oils that sort of satisfaction can take weeks. It can really pay off though, no doubt.

Can anyone offer some tips on confronting ubers as pyro? by JTW2007in truetf2
[–]mrsnakers 0 points1 point2 points 1 day ago
I'd like to add an less obvious scenerio. Of course the best thing to do is to wait around a corner or flank that ubered heavy or demo and push him back once or twice just to give your team a little more escape ground but sometimes this isn't an option. Although it's often best to airblast the class that's being ubered, don't underestimate the value of isolating the medic. The medic isn't going to hurt you, only going to try to get by you and in the moment of an uber, communication often breaks down between the medic and his target as the person being ubered is often tunnel visioned on a few objectives. If you can get by him without them realizing and isolate the medic you can ruin an uber even more because you'll be there waiting to kill the medic the second it's over. Using techniques such as groundstalling can be key for this. Try ambushing the medic as they pop airblast him away or try pushing his feet downwards with your airblast in order to stick him in place with a groundstall, then position yourself in front of him and proceed to airblast him away from his patient. Quite often the medic's patient won't realize what's happening until the uber chain is broken. At that point they'll be forced to turn their backs to your team and fall back to save their medic. If you can delay long enough for the uber to fade you can be in a great position to kill the medic and land some final flames on the formerly ubered enemy.

Well then prec it is. I'm actually trying to get this demo to Cygnus so he can review my pyro play. I'll be online a lot this evening and hopefully I'll have a nice video on youtube shortly enough and can share it with you and Cygnus so I can get some good feedback.
Ok cool. Thanks for the suggestions, will tinker with P-REC tonight.
The reason I'm hesitant is that I'm not wanting to sort through a bunch of replays to find the ones that matter and I'm concerned about taking up space on my SSD. I think I did read that you can redirect P-REC to save them elsewhere so that would be cool. Also, the real reason I'm posting this is because I have a really great .dem file I just recorded from a scrim and I need to edit and share, it's mostly about this one .dem and doing this in the future with a better program does matter but I just need to get this guy edited.
If I was going to use PREC-R I'd only want to use it on matches or good scrims, not based on kill streaks or w/e. Is there a way to set it up to do that? I'll likely mess with it but regardless, I just want to quickly put a start and stop point on this one .dem file. Do you know a good way to convert them to video?
I've found a guide on P-REC but I'm really just trying to do the minimal here. I don't need it to record every time something crazy happens, just would like to be able to take these .dem files and easily remove sections, save them, and throw them on youtube. I saw demoui2 come up while in console but haven't tried it. I'll see if it's interface makes more sense.

Yeah you're hitting home with me for sure. I can't offer much advice as to how other people should deal with their depression, but I can say that I think I've really figured out how to deal with my own. Apparently, I just have to start making art or music. Something happens when I sit around for an hour or so and express these inner feelings of decay and isolation and put them on paper. It's like I'm able to isolate these things on a canvas and analyze the mechanics of my thoughts. By doing this I feel I'm understanding some of my emotional states better and by dissecting them I'm able to conquer them. I noticed this after about a year of my favorite meals tasting like shit that spending a good solid hour working on some sort of expressive media would trickle out into other facets of my life for a few hours afterwards.
The sky looked bluer, the grass smelled grassier, and feeling good started to feel better. Eventually my favorite meal started to taste better than I ever remember it. For me personally, it seems, it's not a matter of having social success or living up to society's standards in order to be happy, but living up to my own. It was just a matter of me needing to express myself, to myself, through myself, that allowed me to realize what I was missing. Now my negative obsessions have become positive. Instead of putting all of my eggs in one basket - using quick instant gratification to escape my depression through food, drugs, sex, video games - I have created the foundation for more sustainable Dopamine connections by diving into this realm of expression.
Now a days just listening to my Ipod while going on a walk in the woods can feel like winning the lottery as compared to my more dark states. I know the feelings can and will come back. It's just a matter of you realizing how to deal with them. I know what my weaknesses are now a bit better and I know a few tricks to make me feel strong. At this point, it's just a matter of me forgetting or remembering these truths that will determine whether I sink or swim in the future. That's how real I felt this solution has been. Best of luck to you all of you.
