"bulletproof chinese" is the best. doesn't matter which one, they won't last long in those neighborhoods if they're not any good...

Selling a old bike for $3 on eBay, got this message today. by Korobeinikiin WTF

it's certainly oddly phrased, the spelling and grammar is atrocious. however, as a former bicycle enthusiast and restorer, if you need a part, girls bike's tend to have much less wear and damage. they get cannibalized to complete (sometimes very valuable) boy's bikes.

The35th Anniversary of Star wars is coming May 25th. I'm hosting, all in one day, no special editions, just the original releases, including Han shooting 1st, . i have a large garage/ mancave, and have access to a theater style popcorn machine.Any Locals interested? by monsterflakein StLouis

[–]monsterflake[S] 0 points1 point ago*

keeping in mind that the 'original' versions are not available in high definition, what would you guys prefer?

  • a 1989 Laser Disc, a 1995 VHS release of The Making of Star Wars, and a 1977 "Selected Scenes" Super 8 film (projector and all!)

  • laser disc version+current dvd release of "a new hope" (non-special edition)

  • the non-special edition trilogy

  • an alternative combination, based on attendee preference

thousands of redditor star wars nerds in st louis? that's pretty optimistic!

i do think it would be a good idea to have a meetup ahead of time, just to gauge the amount of attendees and hand out maps and details. i'm guessing that may 17th at lemmon's (prior to trivia) would be perfect.

you are correct! i tend to think of both of the movies as a singularity, pardon my confusion.

the matte paintings in scott's films are worthy of their own study. if you haven't seen the 5 disc collection of blade runner, get one, there are tons of discussions by everyone involved, including every aspect of the film.

ridley scott's use of practical effects, in blade runner, alien and aliens, is the pinnacle of shot-on-film effects.

I'm taking my girlfriend to Disney World for the first time and I want to be her tour guide. What are some of your favorite Disney Park trivia bits and or suggestions? by Ozymandias12in disney

you can take the hotel monorail into MK, but it goes the opposite way, back by the grand floridian and the polynesian. it's a long trip, but still interesting.

my favorite monorail trip is from the mk to epcot parking, after epcot is closed. it makes a loop through epcot before it stops, so you get a nice clear view of it lit up at night with no people walking around.

they've reduced the monorail schedule now, some later trips to epcot parking is done by bus, so check what the last train's time is.

watching fireworks from contemporary rooftop before or after dessert. or, if you're smart, have breakfast at the contemporary and walk over to the magic kingdom entrance, skipping the transportation center. officially frowned upon, but still possible.

Why Best Buy is Going out of Business...Gradually by ilamontin gadgets

[–]monsterflake 2 points3 points ago

the panasonic was already my 2nd monitor when my hannspree main monitor died. i couldn't find a monitor close to that size for the price of the tv, but after i returned it, i found a samsung 27" monitor at costco for $20 more than the best buy tv.

Why Best Buy is Going out of Business...Gradually by ilamontin gadgets

[–]monsterflake 49 points50 points ago

i bought a 28" toshiba tv for my 2nd monitor (allegedly 1080p), took it home, and it looked worse than my 720 panasonic. so i boxed it up to take it back.

  • at the door, guy asks, "is that a return?"(yes) "anything wrong with it?" (no) adds sticker and i head to the customer service line.

  • while we're waiting, different guy with clipboard walks up, "are you returning that?"(yes) "anything wrong with it?" (nope) marks clipboard and walks away

  • get to the desk, girl asks same questions, says, "you need to have it checked at the geek squad desk to make sure it's okay"

  • wait in line for geek squad, he plugs it in, gives me back the receipt and sends me back to customer service desk

  • wait my turn again for my refund

it took longer to buy and return the tv than it did to take it home, try it and drive back to the store. no more best buy for me!
