I always take friends that visit up to the Cloisters. You can almost feel like you're lost in the woods around there. Not representative of the city, but an interesting different side to it most people aren't aware of.

Our super just called and he has her!! I am so unbelievably relieved. Now I just have to figure out how to prevent her from getting out again, though our entire building probably knows who she belongs to by now.

Thanks again, everyone!

One of the most beautiful and fascinating places I ever visited. I didn't want to leave.

Damn. Here's another picture just to be sure, though him not being a girl is pretty definitive. http://i.imgur.com/g6zWS.jpg

Someone stopped by to tell me that she had been seen on the second floor of our building. I found some cat food left out in the hallway but no sign of her and most people didn't answer their doors when I knocked. I'm really hoping she is still in the building and it seems she might be.

Thanks to everyone for your kind words and advice!

I walked around last night and I put up some posters in the Morgan Ave station. I will definitely notify the local shelter. Thanks so much for your advice. She is a resourceful kitty so I'm trying to be confident that she'll be okay.

Thanks. This made me feel less hopeless. I'm going to put out some food to hopefully lure her out. I walked around shaking a bag of her favorite treats but maybe she was still too scared.

Yes. She is Ernesto "Cat" Guevara. Our other cats are Fidel Catro and Chairman Meow. We had the name picked before we got the third cat and didn't care that it happened to be female. Also, cats don't have gender identities.

Thanks for assuming I haven't been looking. I've been looking all morning. I put up signs in my apartment building and I knocked on everyone's door. I walked around outside but, being in a big city, it would be difficult to look everywhere around here.

I took this picture the other day and I thought I would share it. How is it any different than someone simply posting a picture of their cat because they feel like it. I'm not doing it for the karma, I'm doing it because I wanted to share a pretty picture of an animal I love and am very worried about.

This is the kind of stuff I come to r/WTF for. Unfortunately other redditors don't agree with me and they'd rather see things here that belong in r/gore.

I'm reading The Town and The City (Kerouac) and his descriptions of NYC in the 1940s made me curious, so I looked up some photos and found this great collection. by mme_deviancein nyc

"It was too much to believe, and so huge, intricate, unfathomable and beautiful in its distant, smoking, window-flashing, canyon-shadowed realness there, and the pink light glowing on its highest crests as bottomless shadows hung draped in mighty abysms, and little things moving in millions as the eye strained to see, and the great myriads of smoke rising and puffing everywhere, everywhere, from down the shining raveled watersides on up the great flanks of city to the uppermost places - while, miraculously, way far away uptown, great October cloud-nations proceeded above the pinpoint of the Empire State Building."

Out of curiosity, do you know what size font that is? I'm considering a text tattoo in a similar font, and that looks like a good size that won't blur too much as it ages.

Brilliant ad against North Carolina's proposed constitutional amendment to outlaw same-sex marriage by mepperin pics

It's interesting that my initial comment agrees with you and yet we're arguing. Perhaps I was just giving another side to what you were saying though not saying the same thing. I never said you didn't believe in gender. It seemed you were saying that by law gender should be treated as though it doesn't exist.

I never said anything that made it seem that I thought equal protection wasn't a natural right. I was exploring a theory for why these natural rights have not been given to the LGBT community by the law, or, perhaps, why many Americans don't see that they are natural rights.

[–]mme_deviance 0 points1 point ago

I see your point, but I still think it's more complicated than that. Law is a product of cultural constructions, and, in this case, about what is determined to be "naturally right."

Also, equivocating doesn't mean what you think it means.

I guess I thought your comment was more insightful than it was then. It's gender equality because it's forcing people to look at the sex/gender of another person rather than seeing him/her as just a person? I can see your point, but there shouldn't be anything wrong with seeing someone as a male or female. When most people identify someone as male or female the social implications involved with being that sex/gender are what make the difference, not the initial identification. I think you are underthinking it.

If you break it down it kind of is, though most people don't look at it that way. The ultra-masculine American straight guy often views gay men as being effeminate and going against his "normal" manly nature, filling the woman's role of sexual and emotional companionship. A lesbian is viewed as unfeminine and dismissive of a social and emotional dependence on men. She is in a sense accused of trying to fill a man's role, something a female could never do. This can also be applied to transphobia. Questioning what is "natural," as defined by American culturally dictated gender roles (aka outdated social bullshit).

I have a skeleton key in almost the exact same spot on my left forearm. I was sad to see I was too late to the conversation.
