I'm dealing with an injury right now, a combo of tfcc injury, ulnar abuttment syndrome and medial epicondylitis. I've been ordered off the pole for 6 weeks. Physio really help with the pain, but I'm being told that when I get back on the pole, chances are the pain will return because my hands are too small and I need to cock my wrist to hold my weight. I first started getting wrist pain 2 years ago, but since it wasn't horrible, I kept using it. I never let it rest or heal thinking that it'll go away when I go stronger.

midnightmoonbeam on Woke up with back pain, still want to work out, what do?

Try some light yoga and stretching.

midnightmoonbeam on I'm well versed in intermediate training methods, but what about intermediate diet?

What is your experience in the difference between training in a fasted state VS feed? It's science!", and leave it at that without verifying the rest of the article. "Individuals who are obese and do not have common diabetes and heart disease risk factors die at the same rate as those obese individuals who do. This means being overweight alone puts you at higher risk for dying, even though you do not high blood pressure, high cholesterol or high blood sugar. This highlights the negative health impact of body weight alone".

midnightmoonbeam on 1950's Housewife takes LSD and trips out for all to see

Perfect way to end a war!

midnightmoonbeam on Would there be any interest from the r/fitness community in a "census"?

Perfect place to put the bodi....er, nevermind.

midnightmoonbeam on Would there be any interest from the r/fitness community in a "census"?

I don't feed my room anything. THAT's what they are called. I never knew the name for them, I just did them. They are a preliminary exercise to get to the shoulder mount. The shoulder mount can be done with legs straight as well, as long as your keep the pole on the shoulder and not let it slide to the front. My ceiling is too low for me to do this unless I start from a sit and that defeats the purpose, the hardest part is lifting to horizontal. edit: This is how I use the pole for the dragon flag, except I do not tuck my legs in like the man in the video, I keep my body straight. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QWUqSGqebs&feature=related

midnightmoonbeam on What every high school gym should look like: Sacramento HS

Add gymnastic equipment and we are rolling.

midnightmoonbeam on Core strengthening on a vertical pole

Yes it is very similar to a front lever, but the pole is to the side so the weight is distributed unevenly. The end position doesn't do much for the abs at all though, it's more of "rest position", which is why I stress to go as slow as possible to that position and then lower it again as slow as possible. The points in between are the hardest to hold.

midnightmoonbeam on Core strengthening on a vertical pole

Thanks! I woudl love for any way to make these movements more productive. I just gave it a try, but I can't seem to get it to work, the pole presses against my ribs. I can see it working much better with a horizontal bar, like a lever. I'll fiddle around with the placement and see what I can do. You seem to be much more knowledgeable than me with body weight exercises so any more critic or suggestions are more than welcomed.

midnightmoonbeam on Core strengthening on a vertical pole

I'm not well versed with the muscles in the body, I'm kinda a user without a manual. I guess this is why I am here. But, I don't consider these moves shoulder intensive at all. You should feel the first one in your back and abs. The side against the pole will be the side you feel the most in your back. For the second one, I feel it mostly in my arms and abs. Also, holding it at the top position will not work your abs much. It is the in between that counts. Which is why they need to be done slowly. The first one is held only with the hands, however, if you are shirtless, you can use your side as well...but that makes it so much easier, I'll consider it cheating.

midnightmoonbeam on Recommend readings and resources

**Topic**: Functional fitness, parkour **Title**: http://zombiefit.org/ **Brief Abstract**: The zombie apocalypse is here, will YOU survive? I do all the usuals, such as planks, side planks, l-sits (http://www.alkavadlo.com/2010/07/the-l-sit/), flag attempts (I hold in a ball and try to extend my legs, slow progress sad face). But I also take a lot of pole moves and break them down into drills that I work on. The two below can be done on a fireman pole at the playground, they are powder coated so offer more grip than chrome.

http://imgur.com/9JEPx

The first one is a basic V invert. You want the outside arm above the inside arm in a baseball grip. Engage you shoulder and back and lift yourself off the ground, this is to prevent you from kicking into the move. Then slowly raise your legs in a straddle. Keep lifting, slowly straighten your arm as you tilt your head back. Your goal is it teabag the sky. When lowering yourself back to vertical, make sure it is with a controlled movement so that your ribs do not bang against the pole. Hairline fractures are craptastic. Repeat as many times as you want, you do not need to touch the ground in between. Repeat on other side.

http://imgur.com/ossZi

This one is a shoulder mount. Warning:DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. Falling out of this one can kill you. I am using a double cup grip, my hands are too small to wrap around the pole so I"m limited on what I can use. There are many different grips you can use, play around until you are comfortable. The pressure of the arms pulling the pole into your shoulder is what is holding you up, so naturally, you will bruise. Start on tip toes, do not kick up, do not jump. Lift, slowly and controlled. When lowering yourself, uncurl your back first, legs come down LAST (unless you are a chinese pole dancer and are planning to flip off the pole).

Edit: When these get easy, try holding still at various angles for a long as you can.

submitted by midnightmoonbeam to AdvancedFitness
[link] [23 comments]

midnightmoonbeam on Handstand Push Up From Crow (AKA the Elephant Press)

I will do that, thanks!

midnightmoonbeam on Handstand Push Up From Crow (AKA the Elephant Press)

Okay understood, in that case I think my problem is balance and wrist strength since I've always been able to do it from a headstand.
