Late to the convo, but here goes.

I'm dealing with an injury right now, a combo of tfcc injury, ulnar abuttment syndrome and medial epicondylitis. I've been ordered off the pole for 6 weeks. Physio really help with the pain, but I'm being told that when I get back on the pole, chances are the pain will return because my hands are too small and I need to cock my wrist to hold my weight.

I first started getting wrist pain 2 years ago, but since it wasn't horrible, I kept using it. I never let it rest or heal thinking that it'll go away when I go stronger.

What is your experience in the difference between training in a fasted state VS feed? I've been trying to fit IF into my life, but I find my performance lacking while fasting.

Yes, if anything, I would say carbs (simple carbs especially) hits you first before the protein and fat.

I use the same method of stuffing my face after a workout. But I try to keep the carbs to AFTER the workout rather than prior.

Can you be both obese and healthy? by embrace_the_martianin Fitness

Someone is going to read the first paragraph and say, "Being obese is healthy!!! It's science!", and leave it at that without verifying the rest of the article.

"Individuals who are obese and do not have common diabetes and heart disease risk factors die at the same rate as those obese individuals who do. This means being overweight alone puts you at higher risk for dying, even though you do not high blood pressure, high cholesterol or high blood sugar. This highlights the negative health impact of body weight alone".

4 is still impressive! The only reason I am even close is because my lower body doesn't weigh much, it pays to be small when it comes to bodyweight exercises.

EDIT: BTW, I still have to hinge my hips and lift my legs abotu 4" off the floor before I can lift my hips off the floor and re straighten my body for the rest of the lift. Any tips to start the lift from dead straight? Just keep trying?

Yes, I know those are no good. I'm showing how I place my hands on the pole. I can;t seem to find any other vids with a pole as an achor. I dont; tuck my legs like he does, it makes it too easy. But I can;t quite do it with the my body completely straight like in your video. Working on it.

Dragon flags! THAT's what they are called. I never knew the name for them, I just did them. They are a preliminary exercise to get to the shoulder mount. The shoulder mount can be done with legs straight as well, as long as your keep the pole on the shoulder and not let it slide to the front. My ceiling is too low for me to do this unless I start from a sit and that defeats the purpose, the hardest part is lifting to horizontal.

edit: This is how I use the pole for the dragon flag, except I do not tuck my legs in like the man in the video, I keep my body straight. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QWUqSGqebs&feature=related

Yes it is very similar to a front lever, but the pole is to the side so the weight is distributed unevenly. The end position doesn't do much for the abs at all though, it's more of "rest position", which is why I stress to go as slow as possible to that position and then lower it again as slow as possible. The points in between are the hardest to hold.

Thanks! I woudl love for any way to make these movements more productive. I just gave it a try, but I can't seem to get it to work, the pole presses against my ribs. I can see it working much better with a horizontal bar, like a lever. I'll fiddle around with the placement and see what I can do.

You seem to be much more knowledgeable than me with body weight exercises so any more critic or suggestions are more than welcomed.

I'm not well versed with the muscles in the body, I'm kinda a user without a manual. I guess this is why I am here. But, I don't consider these moves shoulder intensive at all. You should feel the first one in your back and abs. The side against the pole will be the side you feel the most in your back. For the second one, I feel it mostly in my arms and abs.

Also, holding it at the top position will not work your abs much. It is the in between that counts. Which is why they need to be done slowly.

The first one is held only with the hands, however, if you are shirtless, you can use your side as well...but that makes it so much easier, I'll consider it cheating.

Okay understood, in that case I think my problem is balance and wrist strength since I've always been able to do it from a headstand. The 3 points on the floor is too stable to be challenging.

Thanks for the wrist routine. I'm actually waiting for an appointment to talk to a sports doc about my wrists (numbness in the ring finger, pinky, loss of strength, pain on ulnar side). I'll see what I can do to strengthen them until then.
