I'm also a student - I went to the Nairobi slums in Kenya as part of a humanitarian aid medical mission. The whole experience was heart breaking and an eye opener. These people have nothing and yet they were so giving to us. So many of the patients suffered from such simple things, but because of the lack of basic health teaching, they didn't know how to care for themselves.

I was having this exact same problem. It was killing me but I wanted to be the gf that didn't need it or nag my bf to do it. I brought it up a couple times and nothing changed. So I finally wrote out a long though-out letter and gave it to him. He got it! I think he needed something direct. Talk it out with him.

When I was in Kenya, we ran a medical clinic in the Nairobi slum of Mitumba (which sadly is not there anymore) and as we walked through, the children would yell "muzungu" and run up and grab my hands. They would pet my blond hair and were amazed that they could see my veins.
