I don't think your failures have anything to do with "lack of will" or "apathy." You were fighting a national problem on a local level. What exactly can BloNo do about campaign finance reform? Nothing. You could do something about student fees, though. Our tuition is going up, employment is going down, and the university is building a huge goddamn football stadium for a crappy team. And the university (read: students) will pay for it. Alternately, tens of thousands of dollars are being spent in the dorms for stupid services that residents don't need. Currently, the "rent" for half of a 150 sq ft room is as much as an apartment out in town with a roommate. You could have done more. You could have done a sit-in at Bowman's office. Plenty of people would have appreciated that. But instead, you had a campout and a daily circlejerk about the big, bad government.

Why not get an associates in product design? I'd recommend Vincennes University. They have an awesome job placement rate. If you like it, maybe later you can go into engineering.

I agree with this. I've had luck printing things out full size, then using spray glue to affix them to a board. Then you can go around them with a scroll saw.

I'm kind of late to the party here, but maybe that's for the best. I'd recommend sketching out what you want to build, then getting the tools you'll need to make it. For a table, you can buy dimensioned lumber already, so you'll just need some clamps and glue. You'll also want a screw drill and some really strong decking screws, that way you can disassemble if you make a mistake. (drywall screws will snap on you) Other than that, a nice sliding mitre saw would come in handy for cutting right angles. Maybe later you can get a table saw for cutting down wide pieces of lumber. I've built furniture almost exclusively with a table saw, mitre box and black and decker drill. A scrollsaw will come in handy for curves. (draw the lines on the board or on a sheet of paper, then glue it to the piece with spray adhesive) Good luck!

1. Get rid of the bark. Just peel it off, man. It doesn't look good. 2. Find someone, like a cabinet shop, that has a drum sander. You'll have to pay them, but they can smooth down the surface of the log for you. It's worth it. Otherwise, get a belt sander and a couple of days :) 3. The log will probably crack (check) on you. To minimize this, you can soak them in polyurethane for a couple of days. The poly will wick into the pores of the wood and seal it pretty well. Just dump a gallon of polyurethane on the log and let it sit in a pan for a day or two. Wintertime, when the air is drier, is the best time to do this. 3.5 Poly is kind of expensive. You can do the same thing with oil. Any kind of oil. I like used motor oil for the color it provides and the total disregard for the environment that it implies. Be sure to let it drain, though, after you've soaked it. The piece will drip oil for a couple of days afterwards. 4. I think they would make cool, matching end tables.
